Dances With Wolves: expanded edition

I'm pissed.

I recently bought Dances With Wolves for 10 Euros. I found this an excellent buy, despite finding out - upon coming home - that Sony had just this year issued an expanded release (the version I have is the original 1990 album).

Since then, I have grown to love this score more and more (I have yet to see the film). Today, I found the expanded album. It was 10 Euros. How does this make me mad? Well, I find it rather annoying that there are two albums featuring the same front cover, the same "Nice Price" label, and in fact of the same price, while one album is simply over 22 minutes longer.

And even though 10 Euros isn't much, I am in no mood to spend another 10 Euros for those 22 minutes so shortly after buying the original album (I'm also a little short on cash right now - unemployment isn't what it used to be).

Or am I making a mistake here? Are those extra 22 minutes worth it? Dances With Wolves is not my usual fare (most of my favorite scores are big and bombastic), but I really like the 1990 album. How good is the other stuff? Or is it more of the same?

My anger having somewhat subsided, I am now mostly curious. So any advice would be appreciated. :|

A big trend over here in the States is some shops will now buy used CDs. Do any over there? You won't get back what you paid, but you could knock a few Euros off the price of the expanded edition and get that. That's probably what I'd do. And you probably already thought of it, but I figured I'd say it anyway. :|

You'll buy it anyway, no matter what advice we give. You're a score collector. C'mon, for 10 euros! ;)

Yes. But I'm also collecting DVD's. And I have to seriously scrounge money for the 24 - Season 3 DVD that came out this week. :)

Be happy with what you have (it's a great album) and instead use the money to buy another Barry album, like the complete You Only Live Twice.

Yes, I need more Barry (this is my first album of his so far). I want to get On Her Majesty's Secret Service next.

Marc, were did you find the expanded album for 10 Euro's?

At our local Free Record Shop. Seriously. :)

Actually, I hadn't thought of that yet. I should do that. I know of some stores buying back used CDs. I think I'll do that soon. I'll finally get rid of More Music From Braveheart then. :| And good riddance. It has never been played in full (wtf is that bagpipe crap?!?).

I think I'll go back and get the Expanded Edition then. And I'll sell More Music From Braveheart and the original release. They're both in mint condition.

And I'll have to keep on trying to get a job. :?

I've also seen the new CD at Free Record Shop. Free Record Shop in Eindhoven (Heuvel Gallerie) has both CD's and they both are filed the same way in the computer and on their website. So if you ask them if they have the new CD they won't be able to answer that question.

I like the Dances With Wolves soundtrack, but it's fairly repetitive in itself, so I can't imagine what the expanded edition would have that the first was misisng out on. It's a good release, the 1990 one is. I'm happy with that. If you're a DVD collector you should spend the money on buying the Dances With Wolves DVD (make sure you watch the four hour special edition too!!!). It's brilliant. Or you could just spend the 10 Euros on your mum...
