OMG, who has this?

"Classic Records" released Williams' CE3K in HDAD (Hybrid Digital Audio Disc). One side of the disc is 24-bit/96kHz and playable on all DVD players. The other side is 24-bit/192kHz and playable on every player that can read DVD-A.

Yeah, is the sound better than on that Collector's thingy?

Marian - wondering.

It's not the same as the Collector's thingy. It's the old standard release. The one I grew up with.

Look at the tracklist:

I have it, but I can't vouch for the sound quality because my DVD player happens to be one of the few players that can't handle it (I have an old Panasonic A-110). I was able to listen to it through my computer, but it's not hooked up to my surround sound system.

I'm really surprised you don't remember reading about it, Alex. This site and my site made a big deal of it when it was announced, and I know you read both sites. Must've slipped by you. ;)

It's not a surround mix, only a stereo, I think. It's the DVD-A side which is the most interesting, of course. One really needs a DVD-A player, or one of them new universal players that can handle all formats. Watch out for the models from Denon. Their exteriors might not look very attractive but they're getting very good reviews: Superbly SACD/CD/DVD-A/DVD playback results. And that's what counts, fellas!

Yes, Steven, somehow I missed it. I think it's because I have a SACD player. It used to be like this: If it's not SA-CD I have little interest for it. However, with them new universal players that are popping up everywhere, my interest is broadening.

Alex Cremers - still not a PCM fan.

Watch out for the universal players. Some of them cheat and convert SA-CDs to PCM so it can do things like bas management and time delay. And Denon is now dropping its support of both high res audio formats on its lower priced players.

I know that, Neil! Heck, I "reported" this a few days ago (in Stefancos' speaker thread, I believe it was).

Good, I wasn't talking about the lower priced models anyway.
