Does anyone know why Williams never got married???

I may be wrong, but I have NEVER read of a Mrs. Williams. HOW COME?

Here we could have a Williams Jr. to carry the work after Williams Sr. dies, but instead we are freakin out about his health. Now, there can never be a perfect replacement for the real Williams, but a Jr. sure could have been a help if he were interested in his fathers work.

Mr Williams has had 2 wifes and has 3 kids. One of them has even scored some low budge films. And he was the voice of Simba in the lion king.

He got married twice. and I think he's got three kids.

His first wife Barbara Ruick? died of a brain hemorage in the 1980's.

His second wife is an interior decorator?

One of my cousin's friends was working at a music store when John and his son came in. His son came in to buy rap music; and John only could shake his head in disbelief.

Isn't Augie's Great Municipal Band suposedly composed (in part) by one of John Williams sons? That not a low budget movie.... :)

I would do it too. RAP? John Williams has to have headache... I hope he at least likes his father music... if not....

Luke, who knows that people don't value what they have.

I 'think' his first wifed passed away in 1977 and I 'think' he either wrote or dedicated his violin concerto because of her/to her that year.

One of his sons has a rock band that has been mildly successful, but don't ask me the name of it.

And it was Joseph Williams who was the SINGING voice of Simba in The Lion King.

I don't know if this is an urban myth or not, but when his first wife died, he wrote a love theme in a film and dedicated it to her.

Jeff -- who is surprised that many posters on the board didn't know he has kids and is married

Do you mean Toto?

I would say that they were more then mildly successfull.

Stefancos- who wonders if their score for Dune is any good :?:

Williams was married a first time with singer/actress Barbara Ruick. She passed away, of brain hemorrage in 1974. The Violin Concerto was sugested by her, shortly before she died, and Williams begun work on it, right after that. They were married for 18 years, and had 3 childrens: Jennifer (a doctor), Mark (a drummer/percussionist -- he worked in The Accidental Tourist) and Joseph (singer/composer -- worked with Toto on 2 albuns and with his father in The Fury and Return of the Jedi; also the voice of Simba on Lion King and scored some low budget films).

Mrs Ruick can be seen on the film version of "Carousel" (were Williams worked as orchestrator), and his available on Sony a recording of Gershwin's "O'Kay", were she sings.

In June 9, 1980, Williams married a second time, with Samantha Winslow, in Boston, a photographer and interior decorator, who he had first met in Hollywood a few years earlier.

Morn, I really don't know what film it was used in. Someone said the love theme from Raiders is dedicated to her, but I thought I read in an authoritative publication a long time ago that it was a smaller film.

Anyone able to help us out on this one?

Jeff -- who learns something new every day: Joseph was part of Toto! Yeah, they've been more than "mildly successful!"

I think Williams son co-wrote the music being played by the band in jabba's palace, thta was in the ROTJ before the special edition, where it was replaced by Jedi Rocks.

I don't think his son had nothing to do with TPM; but I could be mistaken.

As has partly been said above, Joseph Williams was also involved in the Dune score, together with Toto I believe. He also wrote the English lyrics for the ROTJ song Lapti Nek, and possibly those for the Ewok song, too.

What was his involvement with The Fury?

Marian - who seems to recall that Joseph Williams also scored a sex film.

Joseph Williams wrote a couple of source songs in the Fury.

And according to imdb.com, it look's like he's done a number of "sex" films (softcore cable junk by the looks of it). He also has quite a thing for composing scores for films with rap "gangstas" in them, and oddly enough, Alyssa Milano (three films with her!). Wow.

Joe did a few source songs for SpaceCamp too. It was Clapton and Joey for the source. Something gives me the feeling like "Training Montage" had something to do with Joe, but I think when I first found all this out, it just seemed like it'd be something that Joe would do, as opposed to his old man.

Mark Williams is touring drummer for the band Air Supply, last I heard.

John's first wife died in '74, according to IMDb, and maybe a few other sources. I wonder if the upcoming wedding to his second wife had anything to do with the sound of Empire Strikes Back or if he was just trying to nab the conductor's baton up in Boston by impressing the BSO conductor selection committee?

Um, can you confirm that last part? The credits list a Jonathan Taylor Weiss (of Lehigh Valley, PA ! :) ) as the voice of the younger Simba, and of course Matthew Broderick voiced the older one.

Can you name some of these low budget films?

Well you are right. I finally tracked down the info. Thanks for that insight. I didn't know that.

Also, Joseph Williams was the lead singer of the band Toto.

here is what i know for fact...

joseph was the singing voice for the older simba. he was also lead singer of TOTO after the original singer left...so no...he's not the vocalist on many of their original hit recordings such as AFRICA. he wrote the end celebration for the TPM...lucas did not like what J.W. originaly wrote so J.W. called his son to write something...he also contributed to much source music from other J.W. fims. joseph is actually a very good composer...he scored every other episode of "early edition" on cbs...i worked under him on those episodes. he scores under TV composer W.G. SNUFFY WALDEN for, most likely, other shows too that i don't know about... he has also done an assortment of cable soft-porn films...i wouldn't judge him from those films...most notably FROM DUST TIL' DAWN 2 (i think...you can rent it at Blockbuster in the States)...which sounds VERY williams and is also VERY COOL...CHECK IT OUT.

Thank you for the info. :)

Good to know someone in the know. Suddenly I am very interested in the music of Joseph Williams, and I think I shall study him and James Venable next as film composers.

Just wanting to make sure Dusk Til' Dawn is the same Joseph Williams...? If it is, I would very much like to hear it, if it is anything like JW.

OT: So was Joseph involved in scoring Dune? And I didn't know Eno had a part in that score either.

Lots of learning tonight. Thanks.

Its wonderful. The track "final dream" is fantastic. There are one or two tracks on it which are 80's naff. But the rest of it is great. There is an extended version somewhere in the U.S, but i've never seen it here in the U.K.

Miguel Andrade and Eric Hester know their info. Listen to them, you shall, rookies!

and oddly enough, Alyssa Milano (three films with her!).  Wow.

I've seen 2.

WOW indeed.

Stefancos- :)

I've seen one or two and have one of them on tape somewhere. I taped it for the Joseph Williams music... I SWEAR! :astrosmiley:

She was in love with an artist in one... oh man... I WISH!

Oopps! What am I talking about? I got a hottie now!

But back then... my imagination played tricks on me...

That's wise, but what about the influence on children? I suppose they are able to adapt?
