--With the exception of 6 categories, everything that won was either a personal pick or prediction. Hee.

--The Terminator theme was used not once, not twice, but three times by the orchestra over the course of the show. I had no idea Bill Conti was such a fan.

--Scorsese screwed again. BAH.

--Spider-Man 2 won for visual effects! Score!

--Anyone else think Jamie Foxx was a bit confused when RAY won for best sound mixing? The look on his face just said, "Umm, hey guys, did we just win for something?"

--Since Cate won, this technically means that Katherine Hepburn now has a record five oscar wins.

--Chris Rock, while not as charming or entertaining as say, Billy Crystal or Johnny Carson, did a fairly good job. I liked him.

--Thank God Eternal Sunshine won. If it hadn't, I might've been forced to give up film.

--Hilary Swank just HAD to win for Million Dollar Baby. "I don't know what I did in life to deserve all this." Neither do we, Hilary. Now go away.

--Morgan finally got an Oscar. Woo-hoo Morgan!

--The score category sadly proceded as I predicted. Oh well.

--Unfair or not, but I am just sick of Clint Eastwood. I don't really care how good Million Dollar Baby is. I would just much rather have seen Sideways or Ray win instead. And his Lord of the Rings comment from last year? *smack*

And there you have it.

I haven't heard the scores for neither Finding Neverland nor The Village, so I can't really comment on those scores. But, to be honest, I'm sure they're not even half as Good as POA put together. Five Oscar Wins isn't exactly something to be too upset about. I think the thing we all need to remember is that the Academy need to give other composers a fair chance, Imagine if you were a film composer and John Williams kept taking all the Oscars, it just wouldn't seem fair. Also, if John Williams won 'em all the time, it would take away the magic  ... I'm sure he will get at least one more win before he retires (I'm hoping on ROTS)

Very astute point JackChapple. while I thought Williams HP3 score has some magnificant musical moments, I don't think it really affected the film as much as say, The Village. To be honest, I thought the best score of 2004 was The Incredibles. It works so well with the film. Take away the score and you'd lose something. Same applies to The Village. HP3 was a bloody mess in my opinion and actually diminished my appreciation for Williams' music after seeing it.

I wouldn't be so worried about Johnny. He'll most likely garner a couple nominations for WOTW and ROTS. Maybe even Memoirs of a Geisha. That would be something- 3 noms in one year.

I don't think the fact that it was animated precluded it from being nominated. Remember Disney animated films won Best Score in 1989, 1991, 1992 and 1994. But I think it had more to do with politics. Giacchino's first film project was The Incredibles and voters probably thought he has to "earn" the right to be nominated. Too bad because it was, regardless of its stylistic similarities to Barry, the best score of the year IMO.

.

Why do you say that?

K.M.Who thinks the score worked fine in the film, but didn't stand out that much for some reason

This year was by far the absolute worst oscar ceremony ever. They cut out all the juice, everything that made those classic Carson and Crystal shows so fantastic. The show needs to be an hour longer at least.
