I always liked Faith of the Heart. But no, it's not well liked. I've mentioned elsewhere, one of my daughter's friends is watching Star Wars: Rebels without having seen anything else Star Wars. (She has since seen the OT.) This is like that. I can't imagine seeing Enterprise as a First Star Trek. But it's very cool to hear that you did. I keep thinking I will sit down and do a watch of ENT. (I've seen a handful of episodes.) I feel more of a pull towards ENT than I do to watch all of VOY. (I watched all of DS9 a year or so ago. And I saw most of TNG as it aired.) EDIT: Yikes! I missed that this was a nearly 20 year old thread! Edmilson
Yavar Moradi 3,302
I need to try Enterprise again. When it was airing, I gave up somewhere in season 2 because I thought the scripts were stale, the attempt to sex things up with the let's-rub-gel-on-each-other scenes cringeworthy, and also I didn't like having a Starfleet captain who was sorta modeled on George W. Bush. It was also guilty of the original series' problem of barely developing the supporting cast. Hoshi and Merriweather had about as much characterization as Uhura and Chekov on the original show... maybe less, actually. That said, I always liked Dr. Phlox, Trip was endearing enough, and I always thought the lovely Ms. Blalock acquitted herself quite well as a Vulcan, even if I resented her being used as an obvious sex object to get horny young guys to watch, a la Seven of Nine on Voyager. (Speaking of Voyager, I rewatched it with my wife a couple of years ago -- it was her first time -- and it has aged much better than I expected. You should give it a shot, @Tallguy!) But anyhow, years after I stopped watching I heard the latter two seasons of the show were a big improvement on the mostly stale opening seasons, actually doing new things and having some interesting storylines. So for years I've been meaning to go back and give it another chance. Maybe someday I will. I like the title sequence but don't care for the song at all and really wish it could have gotten an original orchestral theme. Following up Goldsmith's awesome theme for Voyager it's especially disappointing. Yavar
Jamie Dutton 7,715
I stopped watching at some point after the aliens blew up Florida. Scott Bakula was a decent lead and there were some good episodes but it was an overall dull series. Everyone always says that I stopped watching before it gets good. Oh well! Tom Guernsey 2,984
I re-watched all of Enterprise last year and enjoyed it for the most part. Yes, it does get a little bit tedious in the first couple of seasons but probably no more janky than TNG, Deep Space Nine or Voyager at the start. The third series (the one which starts with Florida getting destroyed) is where it actually gets enjoyable. Not all of the arc that season works for me but then I guess I don’t really like the “MacGuffin of the season” style of storytelling that has now become basically obligatory on Star Trek, but it was a significant improvement on the first couple of seasons. The final season is basically what a normal season of Enterprise should’ve been like and it finally kicked into gear. Generally agree with the observations about the characters although Trip is the one that actually looks a bit like George W Bush! Archer always seem to vacillate between being quite noble and a bit of a dick, more so than I remembered. I guess that’s the problem when you want every captain to be Captain Picard… Yavar Moradi
Pieter Boelen 849
I felt like Enterprise did a better job making me feel like exploring the great unknown without any help from the larger Earth federation than even Voyager did. I don't remember too much of it, but I do remember liking it. Tallguy and Tom Guernsey
