batmanand 0
Does Grievous have a "theme" as such in ROTS? I am a bit confused cos there is definitely the makings of a theme - it plays as we first see Grievous at the beginning of the film - but then it is rarely used again when we see him elsewhere. Is that his theme? Or is his thematic material more a style (percussion/brass flourishes)? Or is it something completely different?
Mooz0r 23
Yes, I would say it's a theme... it's used as we see Grievous for the first time... when Grievous goes to speak to Lord Sidious, and when Obi-Wan is fighting Grievous to name a few places.. ChrisAfonso 159
Well, the theme is clearly heard 2 times in full, and several times some bits and pieces of it are reworked in other places. So I'd say yes, it's a theme, it can't get more clear than that.
Luke Skywalker 1,284
it has to be a theme. If not, at least a leitmotif. So yes grievous has a piece of music just for himself.
ChrisAfonso 159
It's too long for a mere motif, it's a theme developed from a motif.
Composer_Fan 2
I've always associated the track "Grievous Speaks to Lord Sidious" as his theme, while there is a track entitled "General Grievous". I think those fast string lines are more memorable than his "theme".~Tyler, who hopes his memory didn't fail him and that he got the track titles and respective themes correct. John Crichton 4
Sounds like a theme to me. The major statements are in Track 1 (which according to Mr. Ware is actually the start of the Obi-Wan/Grevious duel), and "Grevious Speaks...". The motif that appears in Tracks 5 and 7 is not quite an outright statement of the theme, but based on it.
deimos 0
In track one we have a big crecendo than then states Grievous theme. In the movie in not like that, as there some other music after the crescendo. That statement of Grievous theme is heard in fact the first time we see Grievous, that scene in whcih he enters a room and the camera follows him turning around. In the beginning of Obi vs Grievous you can hear what I though was music from other scene, and if I'm not mistaken it is the second quarter of Grievous speaks to Lord Sidious, the part with the chorus (which obviously had been heard complete in the scene where we see the Grievous ship going from somewhere to somewhere (to many scenes like that)). Mooz0r 23
when obi wan and grievous are fighting we hear the music from Grievous speaks to lord sidious (not from the beginning) .. but without the chorus when it would come in

The rest of the track is from a completely different scene in the movie having nothing to do with Grievous. It's actually one of my favorite themes to come out of the prequel trilogy

ridan 0
One of my favourite PT themes. After the Droid March and DotF.
bondo 33
It reminds me quite a bit of the Chamber of Secrets theme.... which of course is a good thing!
THEfranz_conrad 0
Very hummable theme. Can't get it out of my head actually. Must put on Jerry Goldsmith's Masada - that will take it's place as the can't-get-it-out-of-my-head tune.
