the positive WOTW thread

I for one am really excited about the new Williams score. Based on the clips, the music seems to be an interesting balance of modernist gestures for the alien sequences contrasted by Americana and melodic sections that underline the family dynamic during the crisis. Almost every sample from Soundtrack.com has me wanting to hear more.

As far as the film is concerned, I haven't been bowled over by the trailers but I honestly think this is a good sign- that Spielberg is saving all of the really great stuff for those of us who will see the film so that we can be all the more impressed when these things happen IN CONTEXT. I recall him doing that back in 1993 with JP previews. Up until the release of the film barely any dino shots were shown. Just a lot of dialogue and running sequences. It wasn't until after the premier that t.v. ads featured a scene from the T-Rex chasing the jeep and some raptor shots. Kudos to Spielberg for actually saving some "presents" for us viewers to "unwrap" on Christmas morning. Metaphors notwithstanding, I am very much looking forward to this film.

Spielberg and Williams will not disappoint.

This is a fantastic movie. It feels sooo "spielbergian" and I truly believe this will end up being my favourite Spielberg movie so far.

There's a very quick shot of the Rex chasing the jeep in the JP trailer, but it's maybe a second long or something and cuts away just before he smashes through that tree. But yes, we didn't see a whole lot of money shots from the main road attack. There's that shot of the leg next to the overturned car and a shot from Grant and Malcolm's car where we see this huge thing moving outside the window. And then that shot where the T-Rex's pupil changes size.

As for WotW, I'm looking forward to this. I'll see it on opening day, so I'll just be able to catch it before I go on holiday. ;)

I just love the marketing for it. It's like a Christmas calendar, where you have to wait each day to get a new chocolate. Same here, with each trailer they are showing us a little more of the aliens, but never full. Now you see them appear in this trailer in places where in other older trailers they weren't there (well they weren't in the shot yet)

yes, excellent marketing. it's rare and I APPLAUD Spielberg or whomever is responsible for this. Those of us who will excitedly line up to see the film in its first few days will be duely rewarded. And the more I play those dang MP3 examples the more impatient I'm getting to buy the score. I think the examples are friggin' amazing.

I saw a trailer for WotW last night when I went to see RotS again, one that I hadn't seen before anywhere else. You could actually see glimpes of the tripods stalking the family in the basement scene. After each trailer I'm more and more stunned by how great this movie seems to be.

The press in Madrid has been able to watch it this morning. According to one article, they had really strong security; the distributor even said the journalist in advance that it would be an uncomfortable process

Well this guy, whose opionions I don't share; he said for example there was NOTHING good in RotS; I think he is one of those for whom, the most unknown director or film he reviews, the more he likes it. Well this guy says that he was given a piece of paper with a compromise not to write reviews till June 29th. But he said he was not obbliged to sign it so...

There are just about a couple of lines about the movie, which I will copy for spaniards out there and will translate for the rest:

WotW is one of the most dissapointing Spielberg films ever, and but for an astounding half hour with special effects and Spielberg's seal, good Tom Cruise seems lost in one of those catastrophy films such as Independence Day, deep impact, or, even, Earthquake. ¿Is that a criticism? But I also have to say something else: WotW is going to be a boxoffice blockbuster of those you don't see very often.

My faith... shattered. All my dreams, my hopes, my ambitions... they are all gone. I'm not the Lord's one, I'm the Lord's one more. Nothing makes sense now.

But... I will laugh last, you'll see! I was special once, and I will be again! Mark my words.

How many apprentices do you have by now, Steef? This makes no sense. Remember: always two there are. No more, no less.

Hey uhm I was wondering what tracks I should download from War of the Worlds... Cause I'm not gonna buy the C.D . (I know I wouldn't listen to/enjoy it enough to justify buying it).. I guess I want like 4 or 5 of the best tracks from the album. Thank you beaucoup.

Stefan isn't bound by Lucas' illogical rules, he's a ground breaker.
