Is it a Varese policy to only release scores that nobody wants or has ever heard of?

Justin - Who could think of about a thousand other scores he're prefer to Bill Conti's F.I.S.T. ;)

It's about bloody time Bill Conti started getting some more exposure. Too few of his scores are available and I think he is highly under-rated although his scores do seem extremely short. I just wish they would release Victory and a full version of The Right Stuff

I have one Bill Conti score (The Adventures of Huck Finn). I can't listen to it. It sounds like it's performed by an ADD violin section on speed and it gets on my nerves. Not much else I've heard of him interested me very much. The Right Stuff I hear is good, though.

It seems that Varese has a weird habit of making most of their Club Releases pointless and then every once in a while sneaking something good in. Maybe they're trying to play mind games. Maybe they work for the government. I bet that everyone at Varese is a Fed. And they're doing tests on the film score community trying to see what makes us tick and what stimuli will make us mistakenly think that they've changed before slapping us in the face with a bunch of garbage releases!

That would make a good crappy B-movie with an atrocious score by Alfonzo Malone. Yeah! And then Varese could release 3000 copies of it in ten years! There's something to look forward to.

And by saying "nobody", you mean "you".

Or are you truly speaking of everyone in the world who has an interest in film music.

Yes.

Okay, seriously, yes on one and no on two. But in general it seems that Varese releases material that interests a very, very small demographic. And why single me out? Other people have already eluded to what I said. I just tried to make a joke out of it.

Give me a break!

If you don't like what Varese (and any other specialty film music label, for that matter) releases, don't buy them. You are entitled to your opinion, but calling the CDs which you have no interest in "pointless" and "a bunch of garbage" is ridiculous. What you find a waste of a release, someone else may have been waiting decades to own! And they're forever grateful that Varese/FSM/Intrada/etc. spent money and effort to make available.

We have become such spoiled brats. To ask why so-and-so didn't release such-and-such truly is pointless. Save your money and move on.

bah.

Another missed opportunity to a complete Williams score...

One thing I thought would be cool, although completely unrealistic, would have been a COMPLETE version of Episode I. But that's not in Varese's jurisdiction most likely. It would have been cool though. But I'd rather have it not be a limited release. And when the time comes, I know it won't be. Whenever that time may be . . .

And who's gonna release Back to the Future. I've always doubted Varese, but what about Prometheus or La-La Land!?! C'mon guys! It would sell like hotcackes! Remember when they released Predator!

Don't lecture me. You're no authority. People have been saying things like this repeatedly on this board and they never got lectured so stop trying to assume a high and mighty stance with me. I've got my opinion just like everyone else.

I WILL save my money. That's the essence of free will. However, I think it's ridiculous to release so many small/unknown scores AT THE SAME TIME!

I'll continue to call the releases whatever the hell I want. Why?!? Because this is a message board filled with opinions on things. If no one stated their opinion, it would be pointless. That's why I said those things, but then put them in a joking context. But it seems you forgot how to read half way through my post.

Now, if you're done trying to lecture people el Senor God of the Internet, I'd like to move on with my life . . . and I hope you will too.

But listening to FYEO in the film I found it considerably meh.

Are you trying to get on Ricards nerves? :)

Not sure who I'm replying to (Justin or Goldsmithfan), but I never intended to single "Justin" out, as seen through my reply to "Goldsmithfan" and similar remarks on this board (see http://jwfan.net/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&f...iewtopic&t=7496).

Nearly every release that Varese and every other film music label produces, limited or as a standard release, interests a small demographic. How many film music fans are there worldwide? Less than 10,000?

Yes, some of the club releases cater to a smaller portion of that demographic, but isn't that the philosophy behind Varese's club and Intrada's Signature Collection, for example. They'd take a bath on mass-producing David Newman's THE KINDRED or Broughton's LAST FLIGHT OUT, so they opt to release them in a limited form. It's either that or we may never see them released.

Don't lecture me. You're no authority.

I never said that I was. I took exception with your comments and posted accordingly. Who would you consider an "authority"? Would Robert Townson fit the bill?

People have been saying things like this repeatedly on this board and they never got lectured so stop trying to assume a high and mighty stance with me. I've got my opinion just like everyone else.

Absolutely! Just as I have my opinions and have responded in a similar manner when like comments are made (see my reply to Justin above). I don't believe that I took a "high and mighty stance" with you. If you took it that way, I apologize.

I WILL save my money. That's the essence of free will. However, I think it's ridiculous to release so many small/unknown scores AT THE SAME TIME!

I suggest that you take that up with Robert Townson and the folks at Varese. Offer some suggestions. Offer some $$ to produce something you'd like to see released. :)

Would it be ridiculous if Varese released what you consider good releases all AT THE SAME TIME? Is each batch supposed to be a mix of "small/unknown" and good releases? Scores which you consider "small/unknown" might be good releases for someone else. It's all subjective. Who is to judge what is a good score and what is a "small/unknown" score?

I'll continue to call the releases whatever the hell I want. Why?!? Because this is a message board filled with opinions on things. If no one stated their opinion, it would be pointless.

I never said that you had to call the releases anything other than what you feel they are. But I and possibly others may respond with an opposing viewpoint.

Now, if you're done trying to lecture people el Senor God of the Internet, I'd like to move on with my life . . . and I hope you will too.

Again, no offense meant by my previous post. I'm not into lecturing people. I just find it frustrating when fans dismiss the efforts put forth by companies such as Varese. There tends to be a "what have you released for me lately" attitude at times which irks me.

My $0.02!

Be glad these CD's are being released, because if it weren't for Varèse, Intrada, La-La Land, etc. these scores would never be released at all. And we all know that most big studios are not interested in releasing older scores.

Well 2 of the 4 recent releases sold out within 24 hours, the other two are scores by Conti and Bernstein, two popular composres.

Varese seem to know what they're doing

Obvioulsy their releases appeal to enough people to warrent them continueing

Correction:

The Conti and Bernstein scores are still in stock, however, the Newman and Delerue scores are gone.
