What is the last score you listened to?

Is that the new Twilight? I was at Barnes and Nobles a little while back, and counted how many copies they had. I think it was like 20 copies, and I didn't see one Quantum of Solace. Weird.

But top of the line 80's Goldsmith (which KSM is) easily beats out top of the line post 2000 Williams (which KOCS is)

I disagree.

I don't think KOTCS is top of the line post 2000 Williams.

Is that the new Twilight?

What other Twilight is there?

This Burwell guy can actually contribute some interesting music sometimes. I haven't listened to any album, but I often noticed his music when watching a film.

Burwell has always been, and continues to be a great composer. He primarily works for the Coen brothers. I'd check out those scores if you want to get into his music. In Bruges is a great one as well.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button by Alexandre Desplat

A little bit more understated than I hoped. But then again it's David Fincher movie. Elegant as usual, but I hoped for something else from what Desplat usually does. It needs more to sink in, I guess.

I love this score, and I'm not even a fan of Desplat as of yet. I've got pretty much all of his scores, I need to dig through them and see what I like.

Soundings

Heartwood

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

The Terminal (say what you want about it, it's f'ing brilliant)

Memoirs of a Geisha

Munich

Concerto for Horn and Orchestra

All top-of-the-line Williams scores that easily stand with Goldsmith's top-of-the-line 80s output.

Does it really matter what stands against what? Can't we just enjoy... several different things?

I will then. ;)

He's quite versatile composer, I would say. Apart from his waltz-based drama scores, there are also big fantasy epics and action thrillers. Most of these things are at least worth a listen.

Three of those aren't scores.

Gears Of War 2 by Steve Jablonsky

Decent score, it has a couple of good cues. My favorites being "Hope Runs Deep," "Armored Prayer," and "Finale."

I'd say I generally like the Jab-man. I don't care how unoriginal his scores may sound, they're awesome.

Revenge of the Sith

All the recent talk in the best and worst 2000s Williams OSTs had gotten me interested in them again... so I'm listening to all his 2005 scores. Revenge of the Sith is still my least favorite prequel movie and score, though I've only heard the OST and seen the movie once. If anybody wants to hook me up with a properly assembled edit with all the video game and whatever other source music integrated in, I'd love to know what I'm missing :P

War of The Worlds

I liked this a lot more than I remembered... some of the action music is really great! Hate that Morgan Freeman's narration is on the CD though...

a little bit of Superman Returns

the second half of How Could You Leave Us is really good work, with 4:55 being probably my favorite moment in the whole score.

"Jab-man"? What do you call John Williams, the "Townersaurus"?

Morgan Freeman is in the album? Is it like "Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas", or what?

Nope, just Johnny.

Actually, I don't mind the narration on TNBC. On WOTW though it's really jarring and not fun to listen to

What I meant was the frequency in which the narration appears. I love the two Patrick Stewart-narrated tracks in that album: give me five, though, and you may receive a different answer. How many tracks contain Morgan Freeman? Does he narrate over music, or is he by his lonesome?

Two tracks, and they are both over Williams music

Hey Hansy! What kind of editing, like, software do you use?? Cuz I'd like to be a film composer... just like you!! You know what'd be great, if I cut you open and like... got inside you... and like... BECAME YOU!

Memoirs Of A Geisha

Unfortunately, I still have never seen the movie, so this didn't do a whole lot for me. I usually need to know in my head what scenes the music is related to to enjoy film scores.

There was a lot of good fun music towards the beginning of the CD, but it started to drag for me in the middle and second half.

Also: Sayuri's Theme reminds me of the Gondor Theme from LOTR (the first 3 notes anyway)

Finally: What is that weird high pitched tone that appeared in the last 5 or so seconds of track 15 and carried into the first 5 or so seconds of track 16?

I listened to "Raiders of the Lost Ark" on the bus to and fro school. Apparently, I had the volume too loud, as the kid sitting next to me kept giving me odd glances whenever the brass would crescendo in "The Basket Game"....

Powell's X-MEN: THE LAST STAND. Seeing if I can get into it outside of the context of the terrible film.

Pretty great score actually.

~ The Hours, Philip Glass

All I can say is, I need to get into more of this guy's work.

I recently listened to his Dracula, which I liked a lot. I know there are many people who can't stand his stuff, but I've liked most of what I've heard from him. I especially love Kundun and Koyaanisqatsi.

I enjoy "The Hours" (Piano solo) album much better.

Naqoyqatsi is another favourite. And Itaipu, The Canyon and the Tirol Concerto.

Was listening to Saturn 3, by Elmer B. Was going okay, had a sort of tv-movie feel going on. And then came the wakka-wakka '70s guitar and drum kit..... ;)

Gotta love it.

Casino Royale (Double Disc Edition):

Great score. The action is exciting, the use of the Bond theme is great, and the love theme is absolutely beautiful. I didn't expect the score to be this good. This is EASILY better than ID4, and the first score to really make me see the genius of David Arnold. 4/5 stars

I hear a lot of filler in it. But writing the song did do wonders for Arnold's bag of tricks. Tomorrow Never Dies is still my favorite of his Bond scores (actually, probably of all his scores. Although I've grown quite fond of The Last of The Dogmen).
