On December 6, 2005, Fox Home Entertainment will release the original Star Wars Trilogy on DVD in a new limited edition three-disc set. The collection, which arrives in stores a little over a month after the release of Star Wars Episode III - The Revenge of the Sith, will feature new artwork, modest bonus features and a handful of Easter Eggs on each disc.

The versions included in this set are from the 1997 re-release, although no information is yet available about whether the films will feature the revisions made at that time, or simply contain the same (additional) revisions and changes made for the 2004 release of the trilogy on DVD.

(also available in fullscreen version)

Along with feature presentations, each disc features an audio commentary (probably the same as on last year's set) and a credit roll for each disc as an easter egg. It's unknown whether this features new material, or whether it's the long version from disc 4 of the previous set split up in 3.

No word on wether image and sound have been updated since last year.

Thanks to the good folks over at IGN.

I definitely like this box a whole lot more than the first. What about the cover inserts though? Do they still have the same crappy looking covers or has he changed these to match the box?

Hell, I may even CONSIDER buying it.

still waiting for the untampered versions.

still waiting for the untampered versions.

I'm waiting for the versions that have updated CGI from the 1997 ones.

K.M.Who thinks the 1997 CGI look more dated than the 1977 optical effects.

Lucasfilm is usually all talk and no walk, so I doubt it.

They never once hyped up that the DVDs that came out last year were changed at all. It was only on the internet and magazines that anyone made a big deal about the changes to the films. All Lucasfilm did was talk about the new film to video transfers and the re-mixed Dolby EX tracks.

I hate Lucas. Why did they have to use the original poster on this release and not on the first one!

That makes me mad too. I wonder if each disc will the posters instead of keeping with the prequel theme.

I don't want to buy it again, but I may have to 'print' off my own version of it.

Does anyone know of a link that has those DVD covers already done for the first box set?

If they would only fix the green saber Luke has in ANH I would be pleased. I will never forget being at Celebration 3 watching ANH in the one Hall (can't remember the specific name but the one where Rick had the Episode 3 spectacular) and when that scene came on I heard alot of people start talking in confusion wondering if what they saw was really green.

I am waiting to see what they'll write at starwars.com. Nothing has been said so far about a re-release of the "original" trilogy... Only time will tell
