Indy DVDs

When I watched the Indiana Jones DVDs (the movies - I didn't check the special features) I noticed several "glitches".

- In Raiders of the Lost Ark, just before Indy is lowered down into the Map Room, after he drops the staff, the DVD pauses (no sound, just a frozen image) for about 10 seconds.

- In Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, just before they arrive at the sacrifice (right after the "Death Trap" part), it does the same - pauses for about 10 seconds.

- In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, during the "blasphemy" conversation, it pauses for a few seconds in the same way. Also on that DVD, there is a part where Indy and Sallah are talking where the image goes incredibly "fuzzy", very blurred.

Anyone else have any of these problems? If so - is there anything that can be done about it?

What scene is this "fuzzy" moment. There is a focus issue in the movie when Sallah is driving the car and Henry Sr. says "Now they have the map! And in this sort of race there's no silver medal for finishing second".

Was this a creative decision or did the cameraman just have a slip of his finger?

It looks like a timing issue. Maybe someone missed their mark but Spielberg liked the performance.

I don't have the Indy DVD's though I should get em' sometime, I guess. But as far as the layer change...definitely get yourself a new DVD player. Doesn't have to cost $400....just a fairly new one that's pretty decent. People reported having seeing the layer changes in ANH for the OT DVD set, but I never noticed anything since my player is pretty new (only a year old) and it played things through fine. I agree definitely your player.

Fox actually issued replacement discs because the layer change problem on that disc was so prevalent.

Oh gotcha. Just like how there were framing issues for BTTF's 2 and 3 DVD's and all people had to do was just send the discs back to Universal and they'd send corrected discs. Gotcha now. 8O

Is a layer change something that happens on every DVD, or is it just a few? On my player, all DVDs seem to pause for a moment, like a second or less. But it happens with just about every DVD I watch; I don't think it's the player because we have more than one, the newest of which is just one year old, and I think it's happened in that one too.

I always figured that was because they had the camera strapped to the car.

I've never really had any problems with layer changes. I barely notice them on my player (a fairly cheap Toshiba). I usually only notice because my reciever flashes the name of the sound format again like it does when you first start a movie.

Sometimes they manage to put the layer change in a spot were you don't notice it (a fade out or something), but often it is very noticable.

Typically, some tone-deaf person attempts to do that, and ends up placing the layer change at a transition from one scene to another, where the screen is black but the score is very active.

Marian - who doesn't notice layer changes when watching DVDs on his multimedia PC. 8O
