robthehand 3
It's a strange question - but does he? On all the docs, he seems to only have one arm - but I would have thought that would make his job nearly impossible... :?
Incanus 5,519
Well this little bit of trivia is easily solved. On the Summon the Heroes sleeve notes he appears to have two hands in one of the pictures (though the other hand is conveniently obscured by a leaf of sheet music so I can't be sure)
robthehand 3
That's wierd. I just looked him up on IMDb, and:Shawn has only one hand, his other arm was amputated at the elbow for reasons unknown. Shawn was still one of the best mixers and recordists in school, despite his "handicap".
Incanus 5,519
So he has only one arm. 8O It is true then. The photo in Summon the Heroes is a cleverly staged one indeed.
robthehand 3
I wonder how he's kept his job for all these years then... :?
Incanus 5,519
Shawn Murphy is a master sound engineer. I think his experience and craftsmanship make up for a missing arm. And his bio in the IMDb said "Shawn was still one of the best mixers and recordists in school, despite his "handicap"." So I do not think that has affected his career. He's really gotten better again recently though, to the point where I look forward to his recordings instead of dreading them.Marian - who considers A.I. Murphy's absolutely worst job. Incanus 5,519
Perhaps it sounded like I think Shawn Murphy is master but I meant he has very much experience and that the missing arm does not impede the sound engineering job (I hope). Though Murphy's mixings and recordings have been not that admirable on many occasions in the last few years.

Incanus 5,519
Well now when ever Murphy botches a recording composers can shout:"It was the one armed man. He did it! You have to believe me. It was he that killed my score. I 'm being wrongfully accused!" 8O

Hitch 55
John Williams - "Alright, listen up, people. Our fugitive has been on the run for ninety minutes. Average foot speed over uneven ground barring injuries is 4 miles-per-hour. That gives us a radius of six miles. What I want from each and every one of you is a hard-target search of every gas station, residence, warehouse, farmhouse, henhouse, outhouse and doghouse in that area. Checkpoints go up at fifteen miles. Your fugitive's name is Mr Shawn Murphy. Go get him."

I thought the recording and mix was quite good and punchy. Anderton's Great Escape gives the subwoofer a nice workout. Marian Schedenig 5,520
Subwoofer, that's the problem. One of those over-bassed Murphy mixes of the past few years. No transparency, hard to keep the instrument sections apart, and whenever a drum or bass comes in, the speakers start droning. I rarely listen to Seven Years in Tibet for the same reason.Marian - who has said before that MR is probably more interesting than Murphy allows it to sound. Marian Schedenig 5,520
I have no loudness function. Futhermore, I have "direct" enabled, which totally skips the circuits of the bass and treble dials.Marian - who knows the problem is the CD, not the playback equipment.
