QUESTION #1:

What temp music was used for the Jawa scenes in 1977's Star Wars and, obviously, inspired Williams.

QUESTION #2:

I'll have a crack, although i'm guessing on both accounts:

Question 1

I would say passages from Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring" since there are parts that sound very similar in thematic material and orchestration techniques.

Question 2

Yoda? And if it is Yoda's Theme, i'd say he pulled it off pretty damn well for making a 2ft puppet come to life in the form of a wise old sensei.

OK my question:

The Maestro composed a Concerto for which instrument that was dedicated to the memory of his first wife?

You answered mine wrong, but I'll answer your one right:

Did you know that Norman Bate's Theme from Psycho was the temp music in Star Wars during the part when Luke, Han, Chewie, and Ben come out of the secret storage compartments and that Williams liked it so much that he wrote it in the score to pay homage to Herrmann?

Star Wars: A New Hope

The Death Star/The Stormtroopers, 1:39 into the cue.

Yeah, but did you know that John Williams DIDN'T score Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire!! :)

Anyway; nobody know the answers to my questions? Gee that must prove I'm really a freak!

I concur with Beowulf that the Jawa music sounds very much like Sacre du printemps.

Marian - who cannot imagine it sounding even more like something else.

The Emperor is correct. Good one Merkel. Lucas thought the character was too menacing and evil for Williams too provide a theme for.

The answer to the first question is, believe it or not, Ravel's Bolero.

Here's a cheat for some of the questions that may come up in the thread.

When Neil comes online and stumble onto this thread, he might locked this thread considering there already another existing thread.

Star Wars: A New Hope

Norman Bates had a theme??????

I thought Williams categorically denied this fact about the Herrmann homage in Star Wars!

Wasn't it Frankie Lane?

I was going to create a trivia Thread until I found this one here.

What famous gospel singer did John Williams work with in his younger years?

Mahalia Jackson

And here's another one (quite easy, I guess):

Which now famous Academy Award-nominated film composer orchestrated one cue ("Darth Vader's Death") for Return of the Jedi?

I think that "drums" would be more accurate answer than "percussion", since to my knowledge, John Williams Sr. was a jazz drummer. :)

John F. Williams also worked as a percussionist on studio orchestras.

Thanks, Miguel! Every day we learn something new, don't we? ;)

Don't tell me nobody knows the answer to my question from August 5th? I thought it was an easy one! ;)

So John's brother followed in his father's footsteps even more then he did.
