Munich looks good except that they cut the poster off at the top. That seems amateurish to me.

Wondering what kind of CD cases they have on your planet...

Memoirs of a Geisha.

Roald, Justin was refferring to how the title "Munich" is in plain black, not right on the picture.

Indeed, but I believe it's because the title wouldn't show up with the window as a background, and if the words were black, they wouldn't show up against the curtains. So I think they had to cut it off. :)

Why didn't they leave the title at the bottom like the poster?

I love all the 2005 covers except ROTS which I find the be incredibly tedius and uninspired. Neil mantioned something about a cover made "by committee" and I agree. In this sense it perfectly reflects the movie. However the other three Williams covers look gorgeous. I went with Geisha just because of those haunting eyes! Similar to the famous National Geographic cover of the young Middle-Eastern girl with the piercing eyes and beautiful face. A truly stunning CD cover. I also like the design of the WOTW cover, and the stark but well balanced photograph on the Munich CD.

The shape of a movie poster is different than that of a CD cover. I think the change makes sense, given the fact that they had to fit it into a small square space. The CD cover looks good.

Same as every movie poster, althought they did a better job for War of the Worlds.

Or they could have just resized the poster, like the cover for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

I love Struzan BECAUSE he draws photorealistically. And it has a lot more allure than just photographs. And no, RotS poster was not photoshopped.

WOTW was an easy job. If you zoom in and cut the top and bottom of the WOTW poster, it makes a perfect square and there is no information loss.

Indiana Jones and the Temple Of Doom is a different concept. It's a resize that doesn't cover up the whole sleeve.

Last Crusade :music:

BTW, it's an hell easy cover heart, all white, with the poster and the logo. But I like it. Munich should have been like that IMO, with the black backgroung instead of the white.

That wouldn't work. The photo is too dark to be resized that small. You wouldn't know what to make of it. The present cover makes sense, the top has no important visual information and beggs for the title to be placed there.

Besides, it's out of vogue.

More evidences of John Williams' declining ability.

And you judge that by the covers, which aren't done by Williams? :?

Yes, they could have cut a part of the window instead, and let the title at the bottom.

Yes, Tommy, that might've worked too. We need someone to make the cover "your" way, so that we can compare the two.

Maybe Justin, or Stefan, or some other Photoshop's friend.

I'm curious.

This is what I did with Microsoft Paint in less than 2 minutes, just to give an idea of what it should like. The original have that black bar on top who cuts the windows too much, maybe the title at the top, but without the black backgroud (so the title would have the window as background) would have be better.

2 minutes of my weekend I'll never get back. :D

She's Afghan and was tracked down about 3 years ago. Although only about 30, the ravages of environment make her look considerably older now unfortunately.

Still fascinating eyes though ;)

Thanks Sturgis! Did you did it by yourself? If so, give us an high-quality version of it!

See Alex, I was (we were) right. The one Sturgis posted is way better!

I saw the program on TV but I don't buy it.

For me, WoTW takes the cake. That picture was the first thing to get me excited about the film. Geisha is next, followed by Munich. Geisha seems to me the best album cover though (not best picture). It's the most musical cover of the lot.

What's the story about that girl?

In short:

She is Sharbat Gula, mother of three, married to a baker. 17 years elapsed between each of the posted photos.

Here's an NPR article. This Google search turned up dozens of articles.

Hey, maybe the art designer got tired of always doing things the same way. :ola:
