I guess I'll have to rent "War of the Worlds" again to catch the music from "The Ferry Scene." Could it really be as good as the "Escape from the City?"

Congrats to John Williams.

The Ferry Scene music has those desperate strings as the people are left behind by the ferry as the doors close. Kind of reminds me of the Helicopter Rescure cue from Superman, but without the rescue.

I thought the strings in "Escape from the City" were just as desperate without being too overbearing. But I like that scene for more than the music, so it sticks out the most for me.

 "Anakin's Betryal" -- it was the best original piece in the film

ROTS is a great score but do you think it would have a chance to win an Oscar? It is rare that voters favor this type of score (well LOTR won 2 Oscars for best score).I really hope ROTS would be nominated and would win the Oscar. Williams surtely deserves it for his long work on SW movies and of course because ROTS is a great score. If not ROTS there is Memoirs or Munich or WotW. The strongest contenders in my mind are Munich and Memoirs because of their subject matters.

I'm sure this won't be the last time I have to alert people to this, but this is from the Academy's rule book concerning the Best Original Score category. It directly affects "ROTS":

This expressly excludes from eligibility all of the following:

(d) scores diluted by the use of themes tracked or other pre-existing music

So I'd stop getting your hopes up, and put your excitement behind the three other scores John Williams has composed for the year 2005.

Jeff -- who wouldn't vote for ROTS even if it were eligible

Still makes you think of the Grammy people have more music for the ROTS score than we regular people do...if that is the case too bad that couldn't be leaked like the 2-disc set for A.I. did.

I am proud to hear this news! Both Anakin's Betrayal and the Ferry Scene are the best track pieces on those CDs easily. I was hoping that Anakins Betrayal would be a concert piece like BOTH, who knows maybe some day! Ferry Scene I have finally figured out. 3/4,3/4. 3/4, 7/8,5/8, 7/8,5/8.....etc. With a lot of great brass timpani hits, and also I would like to call the string melodies in Epilogue, Reverse lyricism. Make sense to anyone else?

No, it came too late. It'll be eligable next year, though.

I didn't think there was enough previous material in ROTS to exclude it. Added to that, I fid the original, standalone cues far more impressive that the thematic stuff.

Gratz, JTW!

~Mr. Asterisk, who has just returned from doing the P.A. announcements (intros and fouls) at a high school basketball game, and has learned (A) it's harder than it looks and (B) the referees really need to speak up.

Anakin's Betrayal doesn't contain any previous themes. It's completely original. Or do you mean it can't be from a sequel score at all?

I've never understood the fixation on "Anakin's Betrayal". It's good but was never one of the tracks from ROTS that really grabbed me. I consider "Anakin's Dark Deeds", "Enter Lord Vader", "The Immolation Scene" and "Grievous Speaks to Lord Sidious" as much superior tracks in comparison and pure bliss to listen to.

I think Anakin's Betrayal is one of the most beautiful tracks on the OST. It is both highly epic and emotional. I had hoped Williams would write something as dramatic for the ROTS and he delivered beyond my expectations. A very fitting choice IMO.

Hmm, if you say so. I'll have to listen to it again.

Well if youthink it is not great then you do not have to change your opinion. For me that track was fantastic from the first listen. Though some music hits you on the first listen and some after 100 listenings. And sometimes the music will not impress at all no matter how many times you listen.

It's not a matter of changing my opinion. Other Williams fans are hearing something in it that I don't, it seems. Won't hurt giving it a go.

It's defintely something that gets better the more you listen. For me, anyway.

That is true with most of Williams music. The more I listen the better it gets.

It gave goosebumps on the cinema with the visuals.

the most emotional scenes in the saga since Dark side Beckons.

Indeed. A rare SW film goosebump moment for me too. That music made the visuals much more emotional than they could have been on their own.

I hear it in those scores too. But that's 3 scores, and I haven't heard anything like TLW in any of his last 6 scores, and I doubt it will pop-up in Munich. I think that JW has been for a very long time and is still the best orchestrator among film composers (Shore is making him work for that title, though).

I think that is purely coincidental, as in many instances he threw everything and the kitchen sink into WoTW.

Morlock- who, either way, doesn't put too much stock into the WoTW score

Its his new trademark track.

Its not throughout the score it usually is just one track, or even small segment as in AOTC and ROTS.

He didnt re-use Ludlowds demise it until 2001 with, HP SS in the quiditch match.

Seconded wholeheartedly. "Anakin's Betrayal" is much worse than "Anakin's Dark Deeds" and "Grievous Speaks to Lord Sidious," just to name two.
