robthehand 3
I have the Special Edition and the anthology, so is the original release (CD) worth owning?
Adoy 1
I'd say only if you want a complete collection of all the releases, otherwise there is nothing there musically that you don't already have. It's just arranged very differently, the tracks are not in chronological order at all. If you can get it for a few dollars, it might be fun to listen to how the music was originally presented. JMO. robthehand 3
I guess I could just program the anthology tracks into original CD order.

TheRuleOfThirds 0
Get ROTJ from Polydor. I can't remember how it compares to the Anthology, but I know I prefer "The Return of the Jedi" (or Sail Barge Assault) more than the SE. Plus, it's got Lapti Nek and the Ewok Celebration. But alas, it still sucks b/c it doesn't have the reprise of "TIE Figther Attack" from Battle of Endor III that I was looking for 12 years ago when I bought the cassette for the first time in 3rd grade. King Mark 2,924
I was sooooo disappointed when I got the RotJ cassette in 1983.No Droid Theme,no Emperor Arrives,no Death of Yoda,no Rebel Assembly music,no Breaking the Code,no Brother and Sister,no Fight with the Tie Fighters,NO DARK SIDE BECKONS ,no Death of Darth Vader and no film versions of Light of the Force and Ewok Celebration.K.M.who cried of happiness the day the Star Wars 4 c.d. AC1 3,565
I have the Special Edition and the anthology, so is the original release (CD) worth owning? For years I listened to the double LP (which I still have) and when the CD finally came out I rushed to the store to get this baby. Back home, I felt enormously disappointed from the minute I pressed "play". The Polydor CD sound ear-bleedingly harsh. However, after a few tracks I have the impression that the sound slightly improves but maybe it's just my ears adapting to it. If you have the choice then go for the double vinyl version. It's also a beautiful object to look at.----------------Alex Cremers

robthehand 3
Well none of those were on the original LP, were they? So I guess whatever the LP had...
batmanand 0
For me, if you have the SEs you have Star Wars 4-6. Some like the Anthology, but I find the SEs superior in just about every way.The SEs, for me, are the model of how soundtracks should be released. robthehand 3
I don't think there's any argument that the Return of the Jedi tracks on the anthology are much better quality, is there? Just A-B them and it'll be obvious.
AC1 3,565
And for the last time, Star Wars (A New Hope, yeah, yeah, yeah) sounds unnatural on both SE and Anthology. The sound is artificially enhanced to the point that it's almost unlistenable (too brittle). It really deserves a complete new state of the art rerecording. The whole Trilogy deserves it!Alex
robthehand 3
By who?Personally I don't think it's unlistenable, but it sure sounds a bit strange now that you mention it. Better than Empire's SE though.

Mr. Breathmask 480
Ouch. That's about as poor a release as the ToD OST.

TheRuleOfThirds 0
Ouch. That's about as poor a release as the ToD OST. Yeah...how do they leave a track like "Underground Chaos/Heroics" off? I would've rather had that than "Bug Tunnel." When I first got the import CD, I was really disappointed that "Slave Children's Crusade" ended before Short Round went up the bucket lift. Ollie 859
Bug Tunnel is still a great cue.I would pass if you have the Special Editions and Anthology.I still think TESB double LP had the best sound out of all the origianl releases.

Believe it or not, but I was never much into it. I adore Star Wars (the LP) but TESB leaves me cold.

Ollie 859
I think I still have my Empire double LP and I need to tranfer it to CD.I actually enjoyed Williams' sequencing on it.
