The OFFICIAL "Casino Royale" (2006) Thread

I am probably the only person who thought that Timothy Dalton was great as Bond. I think his 2 films are standouts in the series. The Brosnan films were mediocre and cheesy, although Goldeneye was pretty good.

No you're not. He's my second-favourite Bond, after Connery.

Bond needs to get back to where people were the enemy, not huge technological monstrosities. Living Daylights is an example of what I mean. (or even View to a Kill).

We need another Bond film where the bad guy isn't revealed until the end, like You Only Live Twice.

;)

A View to a Kill was great apart from Moore (who was about 10 years too old ROTFLMAO), and You Only Live Twice was fun in a silly sort of way - but not the sort of thing I'd want to see made now. I agree a bout The Living Daylights, though.

Very good. I've never been a huge Moore fan, although my favorite Moore movie was Spy Who Loved Me. You notice in View to a Kill that Moore could barely run as Bond.

I hope you know what I mean when I say the bad guy isn't revealed until the very end. I want to see a movie just once where you only follow the protaganist and everything the antagonist is only revealed when it happens to the protaganist, and the antoganist is revealed only when the two meet.

I agree with you guys. Actually The Living Daylights is my fav Bond.

Looks like the new Bond is going to be rather different, but the trailer got me very exited... it's going to be intense I think.

Just kidding. I think he's gonna be great, but I wonder what the 'general audience' (everyone except the Bondfans) will think of him...

I'm sure everyone will hate him for awhile, complain he's no Connery, Dalton, or Brosnan, and then get used to him within a few months. By the time the DVD is out, 75% of people will like him and 25% will maintain their dislike of a 'Blonde Bond'

David Arnold's & Chris Cornell's song for "Casino Royale"

The more I listen to it, the more I like it, though my first impression was bad. I'd prefer a little bit more orchestral approach to it. It is't the worst Bond song ever, but isn't the best either. I can hardly make out what 'the new theme' sounds like. I am curious how it will be integrated into a score (and will it be?).

It could work with the title sequence, I can sort of picture it. I can't wait to see how it works in the film, and whether/how the theme is incorporated into the score.

Right I like this a lot after a first hearing already, which is good. This has definitely wetted my appetite for the new score. I like what Arnold does musically. Although I'm a sucker for orchestral accompaniment, I really like how it only kicks in in the second half - instead of the same arrangement all over the place. There's also a nice hint of the Bond theme in the closing seconds.

On first listen, I don't like it. Perhaps a better quality file might help. All the music gets muddied here.

That song is basically crap. To me it ranges even below Madonna's song, and I didn't think that was possible.

It sounds like something you'd listen to in the morning, just to keep yourself from drowzing away again.

Did you like it?

Yes. I really liked the last page, how Fleming sets up this character and his mission for the rest of the series.

I expect a whole lot of adaptation and additions for the film, though (which is already quite obvious from the trailers), because the book really doesn't span a whole lot of time and is pretty low-key on action.

Wasn't there also a grey Bond in A View to a Kill? Who cares if we have a blonde guy now...

- Marc, who'll try to pick up a nifty box set of Bond books tomorrow.

Wow....they actually care so much about the hair color for James Bond....I mean who cares....There always going be different actor playing James Bond as it already is like that anyway.

I wasn't really aware about that...considering I haven't read any of the James Bond novels.

OK - some puzzling soundtrack "news"... David Arnold has finished the score, and the soundtrack album is (sort of) available for pre-order from Amazon UK. It has roughly the right release date, but the track list and label number make it look like a re-issue of the 1967 soundtrack album - this could be a mistake on Amazon's part. Likely, considering that it lists the label as "Varese Sarabande" (who issued the 1967 soundtrack), while Arnold has confirmed that his score will be released on Sony.

HMV are posting a more accurate-looking track list, but - for some reason - there is no title song ("You Know My Name") listed. Again, this could be a mistake.

1. License: 2 Kills

2. African Rundown

3. Nothing Sinister

6. Solange

7. Trip Aces

8. Miami International

Unsurprisingly, Casino Royale has secured a PG-13 rating (just like the previous 5 Bond films) for "intense scenes of action violence, a scene of torture, sexual content, and nudity."

The track list has been posted at the Sony Music Store, and is longer than the ones posted on Play and Amazon (25 tracks instead of 18).

To those of you who have not read the book, this track list contains a MAJOR SPOILER!

Highlight to read:

1. African Rundown

2. Nothing Sinister

3. Unauthorised Access

4. Blunt Instrument

5. CCTV

6. Solange

7. Trip Aces

8. Miami International

9. I’m The Money

10. Aston Montenegro

20. City of Lovers

21. The Switch

22. Fall of a House in Venice

25. The Name’s Bond… James Bond

Here also is a thumbnail of the OST's cover art:

And a larger, but rather crappy looking version (I smell a blow-up):

As good looking as it is I don't think it has the poise or elegance of the DB9. It looks a bit beefier and the vents in the front make it look more agressive, more manly.

It definatly fits with this new portrayal of James Bond as a more of a bruiser.

But for the real world.

This is a car that may be popular with men who are getting into their mid-life crisis, or have to small a penis.

I'm a big fan of how Arnold has avoided a lot of the techno beats in this score. It worked very well for the past few movies...but I just thought it would be out of place in this one.

Orchestral really works for me.

Really though, did they just change that, or has it been like all along? I remember when it was original posted at Amazon UK, that was the track listing.

It's a pretty damn good score.

Trent who's all ready listened to the full original soundtrack.   :P

Hahahahahahahaha....... ;)

I think it sounds great, and the lack of heavy techno definitely sells it. I really really really want this score badly. This is the first score I've actually looked forward to getting this year.

The OST for Die Another Day could have easily been improved by replacing some of the techno cues with orchestral cues left off the album. The complete score is vastly superior to the OST.
