JW nominated for BAFTA

More awards potential. The BAFTAs (British film awards) have just announced their nominees. Here's the relevant one:

The Anthony Asquith Award for achievement in film music

Brokeback Mountain - Gustavo Santaolalla

The Constant Gardener - Alberto Iglesias

Memoirs of a Geisha - John Williams

Mrs Henderson Presents - George Fenton

Walk The Line - T Bone Burnett

This looks like a promisingly rubbish list, apart from good ol' Johnny. Hence I have a good feeling about this.

Could this be a JW sweep year?

Alberto Iglesias is a famous Spanish film scores composer. Lately he has been writing for Almodovar. In fact I recall seeing his name on the list of that world soundtrack awards last year, with Bad Education.

The BAFTAs suck.  Roll on Oscar night.

The feeling is mutual :P

Weird I know coming from a Brit, but I'm always apprehensive at finding their score nominations. I mean last year the Motorcycle Diaries won, and this year I only recognise JW and George Fenton.

I am happy Williams got nominated and I have to admit that besides him I only know George Fenton from that list of nominees. I think Williams deserves this award as well (he should get the Oscar) but it might be that one of these unfamiliar composer's will snatch it. BAFTA awards seem to go to the most unlikely person imaginable.
