Ollie 859
I for one think The Patriot, both film and score are, underated and I haven't noticed the AFO reference in the main theme. I actually think Devlin and Emmerich managed to make a good picture. There are a few moments I don't care for but overall a good film. It's not top notch Williams I truthfully couldn't see David Arnold or any other composer comming up with something better. There are nods to BOT4J and maybe Far And Away plus I enjoy the main theme.
Mr. Breathmask 480
Main Title theme is good, and I like Tavington's Trap, but otherwise, it's not an often-played soundtrack here. And yes, Far and Away kicks its butt.- Marc, who's grown very fond of Far and Away. Sergeant 1,093
The Main Title is't just good,it's awesome, especially the "country" violin solo.Too bad it even lose to WOW,which is cold and empty(movie+music)
Maestro 57
I suppose all of this opinion-swapping gets me more riled up than it should, considering its objective nature, but I really feel compelled to defend The Patriot. It's not a boring, uninspired Williams rush-job like so many of you claim. For the life of me, I can't hear the Air Force One theft, and I'm very familiar with both scores. It's been said already by the few other supporters, but this score is just a beautiful, sentimental piece of Americana. It's style is appropriate for the film, and has a distinct character. There are several solid themes that merit a place among Williams' best. I honestly think the people who "rarely give it a spin" wrote it off prematurely, and have yet to mine it's rich beauty. Listen to it, front to back. I guarantee that you will, as I have found with just about every Williams score I own, find more and more things you appreciate about it. It's just as full of nuances and subtlety as his other work. Now, if only opinions were empirical...
