Although it would actually be nice if "Tintin" won too, to make up for not winning for any of the Harry Potter and Star Wars prequel scores...

(Btw, I posted this in this subforum because it mostly deals with "War Horse" and "Tintin," but the mods can move it to the General Discussion Forum if they want to.)

War Horse, The Artist and yes.

War Horse is the best of the Oscar lot this year. Tintin comes very very close second.

The Artist will be the gimmick film of the year and will win the best score Oscar.

And yes I still care whether Williams will win or not since it is always nice to see your favourite composer who is certainly deserving of the award win it.

Actually I haven't seen the movie or heard the score of "The Artist," I just voted for it here because it seems to be the favorite among critics.

But is the score by Ludovic Bource (however you pronounce that) really that good?

Warhorse, Warhorse, Yes. Just a feeling I've got.

No not really in my opinion. I think The Artist is very much a pastiche on the sound of the the Golden Age. It might appeal to my sense of nostalgia and love of those old noirish film scores and classic Hollywood musical tropes but emotionally it left me pretty cold no matter how heart on its sleeve it is. It might work brilliantly in the film but I have not seen it yet.

In the track "The Milanese Nightingale," Williams might have captured the sense of Golden Age better than Bource in the entire score... :P

Really BloodBoal, I mean Josh mentioned Bource in his sentence and I know that the mere reading of his name is nauseating but you should not vomit all over the messageboard.

People keep saying the Artist will win for score, but where is that coming from? Is the buzz around the score as big as the buzz around the film itself? Score doesn't always follow suit with the Best Picture favorite.

It has won pretty much every precursor award. It will win the oscar, I have absolutely no doubt

Plus Williams' double nominees will cancel each other out by dividing the votes.

I think it's mostly got to do with the fact that Ludovic Bource's name is considered the most unpronouncable among the bunch.

Yes. But still, I have a better feeling that I did in 2006, when both Memoirs and Munich were up.

Tintin, The Artist and Yes

Here's a trivia question:

Has it ever happened that a movie was ONLY nominated for a Best Score Oscar and won?

The Artist is a pretty good score. If it wins, it's not an atrocity against the almighty god, John Williams. But War Horse is, in my opinion, the best score of 2011.

Agreed. The Artist is quite a good score and in my top 10 of the year (not top 5). So I'm glad it got nominated. But War Horse is just the superior score.

Both great scores, but I'm also leaning towards Tintin. And those two opening tracks are killers

So anybody surprised that Spielberg didn't get nominated for Best Director?

It occurs to me that what hapened at the the 60th Academy Award might be repeated this year... Empire of the Sun was nominated for 6 Oscars too (including Best Score), and it failed to convert any of the nominations into awards. But that's the worst case scenario, of course.

And another thing: if Howard Shore should win his 4th Oscar this year, it'd be exactly like 2002, when JW was up for two scores ("HPPS" and "AI") and Howard Shore took home the award (for "FOTR"). That would be extra bitter for JW...

The source Bloodboal. What is the source?!!!

Posted

Well?

I voted: "War Horse," "The Artist," and No.

Me too.

I just hoped W.E. was in, and would like it then to win.

Now, I don't care much who wins..

Posted

Na, not Hugo - keep that Oscar for The Hobbit.

Have you seen "Hugo" yet?

Posted

I'd like to see "TTSS" win, but I guess I'm in the minority, here.

"The Artist" will win, without a shadow of a doubt.

Yeah, I care whether or not JW wins. The question is "does he..?"

Posted

It's funny that not even one until now believes that "The Artist" deserves the Oscar! :lick:

Until now?

"The Artist" still has not one vote!

JW is a fan of Shore. He has said it many times. Here is a quote from an interview he did in 2005:

"What Shore did with LOTR is better than anything I did in my entire career. I bow to my master".

So it wouldn't be "extra bitter" for JW. In fact, if Shore wins, JW may give him a kiss.

The source Bloodboal. What is the source?!!!

Incanus is right, Bloodboal. Without any sources, this statement has a lack of credibility.

ckappes, meet BloodBoal. He's a jokester.

I can't believe you guys are taking what bloodboal said there seriously!

You really think JW would say something like this?:P

Josh your day will come. One day you will make the mistake of taking something intended to be funny seriously and I am going to be there to mock you. Mock you mercilessly and without pity. My acerbic sardonic mockstery will know no bounds! Mark my words buster, mark my words!

P.S. For the record I know Bloodboal's unique style and bonkers personality too well to be fooled. I was just adding my bone chalk dry humour into the mix with my comment. :pfft:

Finnish boy! How dare you?!

Because I can. I have faced more dangerous foes than mockery and survived. I had to explain and defend myself alot but I survived.

Sure, that happened to me too, but come on! I mean, "I bow to my master?"

Nothing wrong with that! :)
