Somebody told me one of the trailers features an animated version of John Williams...I highly doubt that, but is there a character that looks like JW so I can set my friend straight?

So in what order are the comics filmed? The original order or a new one? The trailer is confusing.

Elements from all 3 stories are blended together into a new narrative.

Two tidbits:

1. Tin has a different motivation for buying the Unicorn at the beginning of the movie, as he hasn't met Haddock yet.

2. Haddock now tells Tin the story of Sir Francis Haddock while they are lost in the desert after the biplane crashes (the part from "Golden Crab")

Has anyone noticed that Cpt. haddock looks a lot like a certain S. Spielberg, esq?

Funny. I see a certain P. Jackson as well... ;)

Steef, that is the second signature in a row that seriously disturbs me.

Which was the first?

The one you had before this one. ;)

No, it's clearly young George Lucas.

Is it legal to use Basil Rathbone's face for this film?

I hope this movie is a bit like SPR and not like Always.

No, I seriously am hoping Tintin is like Saving Private Ryan.

Just kidding. Yeah you're right.

It's going to be more like a cartoon Indiana Jones

It has some great action scenes that are just *begging* for JW action music.

Let's hope it's closer to TOD than TLC!

Oh wait... that's hoping waaay too much.

That is setting the bar truly so high that disappointment will be guaranteed. We come to automatically expect such greatness from John Williams that it would be impossible to anyone to attain such lofty heights we hope him to climb with everything he does. No matter how good the score will inevitably be compared to the music from the period when films and even Maestro himself was different.

I am just hoping Williams had fun with his first animated feature and has written a colorful and enthusiastic action/adventure score. :)

Also it will be interesting to hear has the longer scoring period affected the music. Williams has worked on Tintin quite a long time now with those recording sessions spanning a couple of years I guess.

Right on the nose, Incanus.

Don't expect a return to 80s or 90s greatness anyone. But its very fun

Is it atleast at Harry Potter 1 level?

Now that would be pretty terrific. I have been writing an analysis on the score and HPPS is a true modern JW classic with best of both worlds, old and new Williams. :)

I still can't believe he composed A.I. during the same year since both scores are just masterful.

They changed Haddock since the original Empire magazine pictures:

Honestly I expect it to be only slightly better than KOTCS. And I bet I'll be right.

Haddock looks a bit more realistic in the new shot and his eyes are more natural. But in the comparison the whole emotional context must have been changed. The old one looks very fierce compared to the almost desparate one of the new footage.

Posted

I'd say he was definitely more inspired, considering he wrote more than double the amount of themes for Tintin than he did for KOCS.

I am watching KOTCS right now, and I gotta say, the movie's a lot better than I thought... (love the opening scene with "Hound Dog" playing in the background).

Rewatching it with no expectations whatsoever helps a lot, I guess.
