I hate that CD cover art. Hopefully the one-sheet poster won't be like that.

not a fan of it either.

I think for the last few HP films, the score samples have come out around 4 weeks before release. So we'll get to hear what Part 2's score sounds like in a week or two, I would guess.

Still no word on the score?

Either this is a complete turd, or they're keeping the lid closed because it's awesome.

It'll be the latter. I'm positive.

The music of Harry Potter is a complete mess since Williams left. So expect the worse but hope for the best...

Wow, a lot of you are Debbie Downers today. What is up with that?

I happen to be in the unpopular opinion of liking the scores, hell I enjoy Hallows, Half Blood Prince and goblet more than williams contributions to be honest.

I rather like the last three scores as well. They're in a different vein than Williams' work, but they're still very nice. I actually rather enjoy the small sound of OotP. GoF is just too big for my taste. Everything on that movie - including the score - was cranked up to eleven, and it didn't do the film much good. You can tell the producers must have felt that way too, because OotP feels like a small story, told in a really big world. Come to think of it, so do all of Yates' pictures. They focus on the intimate parts of the books and scatter the big setpieces around them. Which I rather like, really.

Either way, this is going to be an action heavy score, I presume. Quite the opposite to DH1, which didn't have any space for this kind of music.

And we all know the action music is one of the strongest things about the previous Desplat score. Which brings me to conclusion it will be better received than the previous one.

Not that I didn't like DH1.

I'm seriously considering going to a theatrical marathon of all eight films. I'm just worried I'll be completely spent by the time HP8 starts and I won't be able to take in the film.

I'd rather do a theatrical double feature of just the last two films, to be honest.

In select theaters in the US, on the day before Return Of The King was released, they did a special screening of the EE of FOTR followed by the EE of TTT followed by the premiere of ROTK, for like $25. Me and 3 friends went it was absolutely awesome. There were no intermissions during the movies, but there was something like half an hour or so in between each one, and it was great. Wasn't spent by the time ROTK started at all.

HP wouldn't work, though. For one thing the 8 films would be over 20 hours long compared to the 10 1/2 hours LOTR we say that day, plus the LOTR films are just more structured like one long story.

I agree, a double feature of Deathly Hallows would be cool. I know I'll be watching the Blu Ray of part 1 sometime soon in anticipation

I may watch the films again leading up to the release. Maybe a film per day, provided I could always find the time to keep up with it! But yeah, the ideal would definitely be a theatrical double feature of Deathly Hallows. Haven't heard of any theaters around me doing that, though.

If nothing else, I'll definitely watch Part 1 on Blu-Ray before heading out to the theater for the finale.

At our theater, we've had special "double feature" shows. Like when New Moon came out, we had a special showing of Twilight prior to the midnight shows for New Moon. Same thing with Iron Man 2, Twilight: Eclipse, Sex and the City 2, et al.. Our chain did a six movie marathon for the Harry Potter films, but the theater I worked at wasn't so lucky.

I do suspect we'll have a double feature of Parts 1 & 2. I've already taken July 14th off to see it.

They did that here too, except with just the theatrical cuts (no 35mm EE prints this side of the Atlantic, unfortunately). It was a lot of fun. I was at a theatre where they usually have an intermission (which I loathe with a passion), but they showed FotR and TTT uninterrupted. I know a lot of people were anxious to have the houselights come on at the end of FotR to go the bathroom. As it turned out, they were showing a print that had the TTT trailer at the end, so everyone who had already risen from their seat at the sight of Mordor in the distance grudgingly sat down again, trying not to wee themselves. :P

Wow, that would be waaay too much. I did a 3 day Lord of the Rings watching and I had enough of Dragons and Swords for months after that. I think one every few days would help recapture the feel and also to not get oversaturated with it

No 10 minute Battle of Hogwarts extravaganza? Such a shame. I guess they want most of the battle unscored perhaps?

And who thinks Showdown will be Morricone styled? A mariachi variation of Hedwig's Theme, bring it on!

This looks to be severely out of order. Except, of course, they are screwing with the story that much.

"Lily's Theme"?

18, 19, 20 and 21 better be bone chilling, Alex!

What are you talking about? Tracks 8 to 15 are, judging by the title, all centered around the battle of Hogwarts.

David Yates, for some reason, likes to leave his epic battles unscored.

It's the "Saving Private Ryan" influence. Yates even said as much, at least in regards to the Dumbledore/Voldemort fight in Movie 5. Everyone wants to be Spielberg...

This looks to be severely out of order. Except, of course, they are screwing with the story that much.

Hmm, I don't know about that. Only Tracks 2 and 3 seem strange, to me. I don't know what "The Tunnel" or "Underworld" could be referring to so early in the film. Or even what importance they would have later in the story, to place them at the beginning of the album...

I'm seriously considering listening to the score after watching the film. I haven't done that with a score (consciously) in ages.

Hearing part 1 before watching it caused me great dismay.

It may give the score more weight, considering I'll be dissapoined by default anyway.

25.A New Beginning 01:39

Yay, the most generic and overused track title in film score history. How enticing.

No, that would be "The Final Confrontation".

Snape's Demise

Voldemort's End

What is this, the OST of The Phantom Menace? Luckily I've read the book... lol. Although that last one is a bit obvious to happen if you figure it's a conventional fantasy adventure film with a villain...

I'm pretty sure this refers to the parts of Gringotts that are underground... it actually has tunnels (and the trailer features the ride through a tunnel), and could be considered "Underworld." I'd be more interested in what the actual cue "Gringotts" is used for.

I've been listening a lot to Desplat's HP 7.1 after taking some time away from it. You know what? It is even better than I remember. There's a thread on FSM where some of us break down the score a bit more. Check it out if interested. I wasn't wowed by Tree of Life so I'm hoping Desplat poured all of his energies into HP 7.2. Really excited about this score. And of course Williams' Tintin and War Horse (although not at all interested in either movie funny enough).

The tracklist is ...strange. So many very short tracks right in the action scenes. And the worst: Not even proper end credits. That seems like a joke. We have 8 movies, the whole Potter series finishes with this soundtrack and they don't bother to deliver a great end credits suite for the soundtrack.

And well, you probably know my opinion on the DH1 soundtrack. It was dissapointing and a very unmemorable score. I never had the urge to listen to this soundtrack again although the movie was fine. I so hope that Desplat proves that he is able to write great scores for once with DH2.

That's just because the 8minute John Williams penned End Credits cue will only be released as a digital download, not a part of Desplat's OST CD.

Given their recent release strategy, it will more likely be available in 2 parts on two different limited editions for $70 each...

I haven't seen anything that suggests a deluxe set is coming, like they did for DH Part 1.

And I hope they don't... their strategy last time was just ridiculous.

Lincoln also didn't see anything to suggest John Wilkes Booth was going to the movies that night, either.

I believe Lincoln was at a showing of "Gone with the Wind." ;)

Well they had the "deluxe" edition up for pre-order at the same time as the regular release and I didn't see one for Part 2 when I checked Amazon.

That's true. If that's the case, then maybe "Gringotts" is for when all hell breaks loose inside the vaults, and then "Dragon Flight" would obviously be the escape on the dragon. That makes sense.
