I actually rather enjoy the small sound of OotP. GoF is just too big for my taste. Everything on that movie - including the score - was cranked up to eleven, and it didn't do the film much good. You can tell the producers must have felt that way too, because OotP feels like a small story, told in a really big world. Come to think of it, so do all of Yates' pictures. Quite the opposite to DH1, which didn't have any space for this kind of music.And we all know the action music is one of the strongest things about the previous Desplat score. Me and 3 friends went it was absolutely awesome. There were no intermissions during the movies, but there was something like half an hour or so in between each one, and it was great. Wasn't spent by the time ROTK started at all.HP wouldn't work, though. For one thing the 8 films would be over 20 hours long compared to the 10 1/2 hours LOTR we say that day, plus the LOTR films are just more structured like one long story.I agree, a double feature of Deathly Hallows would be cool. But yeah, the ideal would definitely be a theatrical double feature of Deathly Hallows. Haven't heard of any theaters around me doing that, though.If nothing else, I'll definitely watch Part 1 on Blu-Ray before heading out to the theater for the finale. Like when New Moon came out, we had a special showing of Twilight prior to the midnight shows for New Moon. Same thing with Iron Man 2, Twilight: Eclipse, Sex and the City 2, et al.. Our chain did a six movie marathon for the Harry Potter films, but the theater I worked at wasn't so lucky.I do suspect we'll have a double feature of Parts 1 & 2. Wasn't spent by the time ROTK started at all.They did that here too, except with just the theatrical cuts (no 35mm EE prints this side of the Atlantic, unfortunately). It was a lot of fun. I was at a theatre where they usually have an intermission (which I loathe with a passion), but they showed FotR and TTT uninterrupted. I know a lot of people were anxious to have the houselights come on at the end of FotR to go the bathroom. As it turned out, they were showing a print that had the TTT trailer at the end, so everyone who had already risen from their seat at the sight of Mordor in the distance grudgingly sat down again, trying not to wee themselves. I did a 3 day Lord of the Rings watching and I had enough of Dragons and Swords for months after that. I haven't done that with a score (consciously) in ages.Hearing part 1 before watching it caused me great dismay.It may give the score more weight, considering I'll be dissapoined by default anyway. There's a thread on FSM where some of us break down the score a bit more. Check it out if interested. I wasn't wowed by Tree of Life so I'm hoping Desplat poured all of his energies into HP 7.2. Really excited about this score. And of course Williams' Tintin and War Horse (although not at all interested in either movie funny enough). And well, you probably know my opinion on the DH1 soundtrack. It was dissapointing and a very unmemorable score. I never had the urge to listen to this soundtrack again although the movie was fine.
