  1. Having just heard "Yoda To The Rescue", I think it is a fantastic piece of originality, worthy of John Williams himself! I think it would have fit the scene in well in AoTC. Whoever wrote and recorded this ought to be rewarded with something. I wish I could hear more fan's interpretations of the "Battle Of Geonosis" so I can synch it with the film. Great job!
  2. Many years ago I did a comprehensive review of the entire score for the classic trilogy on the late lamented web site the Unofficial John Williams Home page. Unfortunately, it is no longer on the Internet actively, however a check of Archive.org shows that it has been preserved. This article is a bit-by-bit dissection (if you will) of all the cues composed and recorded, including those that remain unavailable http://web.archive.org/web/20010204222800/...s/swindepth.htm is where you can find it. If you have trobule accessing it, E-mail me and let me know and I'll make arrangements to see that you try and get it.
  3. I read about this via Yahoo's Entertainment section.
  4. I hope you guys have plenty of $$$ to go to Washington this Christmas as JW has been chosen to receive the Kennedy Center Honor this year. It is about time he got this honor. His gift of music has been tremendous, and now JW is being feted for this ultimate honor.
  5. To wrap this all up now... First off, no, we did not hear those dreadful words "we'll return after these messages" once during the telecast (I think it was because the show was sponsored). Anyway, the version we got to see last night was actually the extended version with all the DVD deleted scenes restored to film context. Although it was reported that 20 minutes were restored by Chris Columbus, the additions totaled no more than 8 minutes, so there wasn't anything restored that we had not seen, so sadly, we did not get to see Peeves the poltergeist. I don't know if the extended film makes any difference, but hopefully the intersitials do in case you guys want to make a DVD-R or VHS for yourselves. That puts a wrap on things.
  6. Because this is airing at the "doom hour", 7:00 PM/6:00 PM Central, a time slot reserved for family and news programs...and usually an event like this can get trounced on by CBS' "60 Minutes".
  7. By now, they should be at the part where they hold the banquet. Peeves probably should be inserted at this point, unless he remains cut from the film.
  8. As of this moment, "Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone" is now airing on the East Coast over ABC at the "doom hour". You guys keep count on how many times the phrase "we'll return after these messages" is mentioned. Anyway, one viewer has already noted that the deleted scene where Petunia is dying Dudley's old uniform to fit Harry has been restored to the broadcast. If anyone who is now watching the telecast can spot any more, this is the thread to mention it for the sake of viewers on the West Coast.
  9. One scene that was deleted from Potter I that I want to see restored to the ABC telecast is a scene with Peeves, the poltergeist that causes trouble at Hogwarts. It was completed, but left on the cutting room floor (it didn't even make the deleted scenes on the DVD). Rik Mayall played Peeves, by the way.
  10. Just looked at the ABC site, and it has announced that the long version of "Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone" will air on Sunday, May 9. It will include restored scenes not in the theatrical release. The only caveat is that it will air at the 'doom hour' of 7:00 PM/6 Central (which means we will again have to put up with the dreadful words "we'll return after these messages"). The good news in addition to the added footage is that it will include interviews with the cast, and a 10-minute "making-of" featurette on the new "Prisoner Of Azkaban". I hope they restore the Peeves sequence to the film.. the one scene that was cut that I want added.
  11. That's Dr. Henry Jones Sr. talking.
  12. Mike Newell, as you know, will direct the next Harry Potter movie, "Goblet Of Fire". But I doubt he will use a big name composer like John Williams (Newell did not on his last film, "Mona Lisa Smile". So, before I put this poll to you, I'd like to give you my thoughts. The one person who I would want to replace JW would be... ...Eric Serra. A more modern synth/orchestral score on the lines of Serra's score for "Goldeneye" and "Fifth Element", but using JW's already established themes. OK, let's hear your opinion.
  13. My version of "Superman" runs 197 minutes (188 min. for the feature, 9 min. for Overture, Intermission, Entr'acte, and Exit Music [constructed from the Rhino soundtrack]).
  14. Some time ago, I made a digitally edited recreation of the Salkind International Cut on 2 DVD-Rs. I used all that I had on hand, including the 2000 Director's cut restoration, the LaserDisc of the theatrical cut, two 16MM prints of the ABC version, and a 16MM print of the Salkind version that aired on L.A.'s KCOP. In my version, nearly all the music has been reinstated except for parts of "Superfeats" that remained unused in any version of the film. And, in some cases, some TV scenes were remixed to stereo. Of course, I used special software to pull it off. Not bad with what I had on hand back then, but sometime in the future I wouldn't mind doing another remaster using better quality material. But it is the best version of "Superman" I could come up with, and even better than the theatrical versions.
  15. I've read the latest news on the score for "Harry Potter And Prisoner Of Azkaban". I've heard nothing about the London Symphony Orchestra's involvement wtih the new sequel, which leads me to believe Williams will once again use a studio orchestra for his latest score. By the way, he's recording this in London, so naturally he'll have to pick an ad-hoc group of studio musicians for this. If I'm wrong, can anyone tell me?
