  1. How much is a guinea worth?

Why it's worth one pound and one shilling sir (by 19th century standards that is) :)

Wouldn't want to pay in pounds in this day and age....especially since my money is good old american money (which isn't doing well against the pound at all right now).

  2. This sucks....i've been in Britain for the last 3 summers and have been able to watch all the proms they show on TV at those times.....this year i'm doing an internship in Panama and won't be able to see a single one.

In light of this, I will pay the person 1500 guineas who sends me either video footage or audio excepts of the concert tomorrow. :)

  3. OK...so the director is a guy named Matt Reeves, who apparently has plenty of TV shows under his directorial belt.

Including such astounding shows as Felicity...I knew there was a reason why I didn't like that Hipster "too-cool-for-school" NY vibe of the trailer (let's hope this is not the tone of the movie). Like others here, I could do with a good Big Monster pic - its been ages since we've had one.

  4. This whole cd is a jewel in and of itself - every single track.

In many ways, this was THE single cd that made me a John Williams fanatic (it was the second JW album I bought after Jurassic Park - the one where as a kid I went "He did this and this and this???"). Not only are the performances great, but it has a great assortment of the different styles that encompassed JW's career up until the time the CD was made.

Definitely a must-have for a beginner appreciator and collector of JW's stuff.

  5. Clarinet - E.T. ---> We played a version of Escape/Chase/Saying Goodbye when I was in High School...one of the toughest JW pieces i've ever had to play (wish I could find the arrangement again to play with my current ensemble, it was killer!)

Trumpet - gotta agree with whomever said Battle of the Heroes - there's some tough counting and range in that piece.

  6. So am I the only one who really likes this score?

Nope, love the score and movie.

But as you say, I think it works better if one has seen the film and thus can put the music into context that way. But my classical purist mates would argue that music shouldn't rely on images to convey a musical idea or point.

And that's why I summarily tell them to shut their pie-holes when talking about this very subject.

  7. . . . sleep with this chick I met at a party last night? Her name's Cammie, she's Brazilian, and she's smoking hot!

    If she looks like this:

    or this:

    adriana-lima-6.jpg

    or this:

    adriana_lima6.jpg

then I suggest you hit that like the fist of an angry god my friend....repeatedly.

If she doesn't, i'd make sure she's a she before you get yourself in too deep, if you get my meaning.

As for your real question...what was it again? I got distracted by some er...pictures.

  8. I say great. Indy has never needed CGI (atleast not in the way it's used now), why should this be any different?

Fair enough....but let's take a scene from TLC, the spectacular [for its time] effect of Indy crossing the rock bridge near the end of the film (blew my mind as a kid).

Now if a scene like that were to be filmed for the new movie, and assuming it was done by old-fashioned means of special effects via models and the like....would it hurt to spruce it up with a bit of CGI?

  9. According to producer Frank Marshall from this article, there will be no CGI in Indy IV.

Is this even possible in this day and age?

I'm all for the use of CGI in films if it is used sparingly and only when needed, and if there's one man who can pull it off, it has to be Spielberg.

  10. Indy (after punching Shia)

    Where's Dr. Ravenwood?

    Shia

    I'm Dr. Ravenwood!

    Marion

    Indy!

    Indy

    Is that Shia?

    LATER

    Indy

I did what you wanted. I stayed away. Why didn't you tell him?

    Marion

How can you ask me that? Were we together? Were we going to be?

You had your world, and I had mine. And I wanted him in mine,

not chasing through the world with his father looking for little bits of junk.

    Neil

    :)

Would only work if Indy has a nemesis whose name he can shout out in rage for 20 seconds.
