So this fellow is taking the reins of the Berlin Philharmonic. Does anyone know anything about this conductor? For example, his styles, his favorite composer/genre, etc etc. I would be most interested in any information on this man.

I play the sk......, oh you mean musical instruments.
 Accordian.
Hehe...so Joe, who's your greatest idol ---> Lawrence Welk?

Wow great topic!
I voted for Episode I. There's just something about that score that blew me away the first time I heard it. Everything was so crisp and clean, and I actually remember thinking that it sounded very un-Star Wars like just because of that. Also, I think the score itself is brilliant, contrary to what many people on this board falsely believe.
Beowulf - Psyched because he is moving to London next year and will get to listen to the LSO in person!
-
Wow! A lot of drummers I see...that obviously makes this board very -->
It is good to see the variety of instruments represented on these boards however. Maybe that's another reason why we all usually have unique opinions on things.
Beowulf - Glad that no one has said anything remotely akin to "skin flute" or any other such "instruments"... I was half expecting it from Figo or maybe even Stef.
-
Well? Let's have it then!
I personally play the Piano, Clarinet and Trumpet.
Piano = General instrument...fun at all times.
Clarinet = Orchestra and Wind Ensemble.
Trumpet = Jazz Band and Marching Band.

Brian99_1 - Who doesn't hate Horner's stuff but Wishes for a revival of the ST:2 style!
Can I get an Amen on that!
-
Hey!
I'm rooting for AOTC along with ya Pelzter!
-
...everyone is always raving about Krull...Cocoon.
I always liked these two Figo, as they represented all that was Horner before he became tainted! I'd recommend them to you, heck, even more so if they are as cheap as you mentioned.
Richard, you have a very good taste in "Horner" music...mostly because I agree with you.
-
Hopefully they'll take and extra day or two during the Ep. III scoring to correct this problem.
I agree with you wholeheartedly John...I find it very hard to believe that GL and JW wouldn't correct this problem. I mean if ANH is going to be rescored, then why not those parts of AOTC that also need to be rescored? It's obvious that the music that was left out was due to last minute editing, and hopefully by 2005 all the final edits on AOTC will have been made, thus enabling a complete version for final re-scoring!
Have faith in GL...this is an oversight that I strongly believe he will correct!

...as well as the fact that this is supposed to be the last blast for the Next Gen cast
Actually if I remember correctly, there are rumors that this *may* not be the last one with the Next Generation cast. I think I read that on Dark Horizons where there was an interview with Patrick Stewert and the question of this being the last TNG film came up. He said something like "I doubt this will be the last film [TNG film that is].

Just the average kind of Arts teacher... but my wife Carla... She's a Super Teacher
Well we need more people like you and your wife...especially here in the U.S....and ESPECIALLY arts teachers.
The arts seem to be sadly lacking here in the U.S.

I gotta say Miguel...you and Merkel "speak" english very well. I took spanish for 3 years and I don't remember a damned thing.
Those Portugese school systems must be pretty damn good!

Star Trek II - Epilogue and End Credits
Hook - Battle music (banquet scene is also a good action packed cue)
Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom - Parade of the Slave Children
Raiders of the Lost Ark - The Basket Chase
The Empire Strikes Back - The Asteroid Field
Return of the Jedi - The Forrest battle --> I LOVE this piece of action music...its so damned syncopated!
Those are a few I can think of right now...i'll post some more later.

Beowolf, what a hideous avatar. quite disgusting.
Actually...it is quite pleasant to the eye. Crimson and white [cream] go well together methinks.
What did Obi-Wan say to Luke when they first spotted Norman Ok?you will never find a more retched hide of scum and villiany.
LOL
Are you sure he wasn't talking about Fayetville? If I seem to remember correctly, a Mr. Nolan Richardson seemed to have a few choice words about that town last year.
so do you really think OU will go 14-0 and win the Nat. Champ. again? With White looking good this year and my having seen the scrimage already...anything is possible. Seriously speaking, I think they have a very good chance at the title but I doubt they could go undefeated. That was a magical year with many favorable factors going for them.
And are you the former Dvorak of the old board.maybe...maybe not. 8O
I think you and your razorbacks better get used to this year.
-
I used to love Horner...before he turned all sappy and celtic.
Give me scores like those from his "old days" -> Star Trek II and III, Cocoon, Krull, Rocketeer, et al.
bawling
Why Horner?! Why did you have to change!
-
Congratulations! I wish you good fortune and luck with this, a new phase in your life.
Beowulf - wondering, along with Figo, where these lucky guys are finding such wonderful women...all the women in my part of the country seem to be mindless dim-wits content to be a part of the masses.
-
Lord of the Rings as No. 1???
Ok...the score is good, i'll give it that. Very original. But the best score of all time? --> damn LOTR fanboys...wouldn't know a good score if it bit them in the arse!
And btw...where's Hook on that list? 8O
-
I'll admit it...i'm a fairly young/new collector, so my list isn't that comprehensive in value, rarity, etc. But here are my crown jewels:
Soundtracks:
Hook - Concorde bootleg
Close Encounters of the Third Kind - Special Collector's Edition
Soon to be in my possession -Superman - Rhino Edition
Others:
Sir George Solti and the CSO - Brahms' 4 Symphonies plus Tragic Overture and Academic Festival Overture
Sir George Solti - Wagner's Ring Cycle
Michael Tilson Thomas and the LSO- Debussy Collection
and many too many others to list here...
-
Uhhh...Figo, you're not with the paparazzi are you? 8O
But seriously...how did you get to meet all these people?
On topic: The only famous person I have met is Richard Branson. We actually had an in-depth conversation. It was quite nice, and he is a pleasant fellow!
-
The finally battle of AOTC takes place on some ILM CG guy's hard drive.
eek2
LOL
Goodness gracious Rogue, you really don't like the prequels at all do you?
Search your feelings...you KNOW them to be good
-
Good to see you back Merkel...I would also like to know if there is an "X" on the floor!
-
Who comes up with this stuff?
Monkeys at typewriters it would appear cal.
-
Beowulf, I know I am not by any reckoning your favorite jwfan poster...
Oh come now Figo...we are all friends here at these message boards!
I may not agree with what you have to say, but your opinion is highly valued (as are all opinions). Heck, that's the beauty of the democratic system. As someone recently said - although we all have firm beliefs and differing opinions, we are still held together by a common bond of our love for music; in this case the spectacular music of John Williams. And Figo, I agree with your view on the film itself wholeheartedly - the simplicity is what attracted me the most.
To all the others that have replied, thanks alot. I'm glad you took the time out to read about my revelation. And don't worry IndySolo, as soon as I feel my homage is over, I will relinquish the avatar.
Should the "Classic Trilogy" be re-scored?

While this may be sacrilegious to some of you, I quite like the idea. We already know that parts of ANH are going to be rescored to include the "Imperial March", so how far of a leap would it be to go ahead and re-record the original scores? The general quality of the old scores is definitely lacking and not up to par with the Prequel recordings. Whether it is because of the technological advances in sound-recording equipment or better performances, there is a marked difference.
Of course...there are certain cues and tracks that I wouldn't want to be changed...ever...like "The Dark Side Beckons" or "Yoda and the Force", since these already work so well with the film, but it would be interesting to see/hear how this develops and I would trust Lucas and Williams completely to carry this out if it were to happen.
Oh...and please. For those of you who apply, spare me your endless tirades about how Lucas supposedly "raped" your childhood by making the prequels...that's another matter entirely.
