  1. another favorite scene from Superman is where Ms. Teschmacher rescues Superman and he flys through the ceiling.

It seems everytime I'm in a swimming pool, I can't help but quote this scene.

Jason, you must see Superman - The Movie.

  2. My girlfriend has been bugging me for months to read Goblet of Fire so we can both discuss it. We were all set to go to the bookstore and get it and go to Veteran's Stadium before the Phillies game tomorrow to celebrate Harry Potter's birthday. It seems they are having some sort of event there.

However, another event came up that I just couldn't resist going to and fortunately I have the best girlfriend in the world who convinced me that I couldn't miss this other once in a lifetime event, so she'll be going to the Harry Potter event at the Vet and I'll be elsewhere.

Hopefully she'll get me some cool Harry Potter things and I'll pick up Goblet of Fire while I'm away.

  3. I just ordered The Sand Pebbles, Romancing the Stone and the 2 disc set of The Fury! Original film tracks, and a re-mastered version of the album, this is going to be great! Unfortunately, it seems to be missing the alternate "Death on the Carousel" that was on the older Varese album. Perhaps it's a hidden bonus cue.

  4. Jurassic Park.

Jaws is a great score though.

JP is also a better film.

Justin -Who needs to the get the RSNO re-recording to Jaws.

The film Jurassic Park is better than Jaws? Justin, why would you say such a thing like that? Jaws is such a clearly better movie in every conceivable way that your post makes me want to laugh.

Jaws has better acting, better drama, better scares, better dialogue, better pacing and of course a much more memorable and better score. The only thing that Jurassic Park has going for it is the CG effects, but Jaws works perfectly despite the fact that we rarely ever see the shark.

  5. Bah,I don't collect DVD's,first they are still expensive, second I learned my lesson with shelfulls of VHS tapes I watched once or twice at most, third, they usually come up with a super deluxe edition after the first release, fourth, you can rent them to see those obligatory "deleted" scenes THEY LEAVE OUT ON PURPOSE IN THE THEATRICAL RELEASE TO SELL THE DVD's.

    K.M.

Yet you still buy CD's where you know you are getting far less than the whole score, and CD's in a lot of cases are now more expensive or the same price as DVD's.

And that bit about the deleted scenes only being done for DVD's is hysterical. I'm sure the mentality is now "well at least it'll be seen on the DVD" but I doubt studios waste months shooting and editing scenes on purpose only to decide later to cut them. Maybe I'm blind to the ways of the film making world, but I thought cutting scenes was all about telling the best story possible. Sounds to me like you are a conspiracy theorist.

  6. Couldn't the sound recorder help with this? Even it out a LITTLE bit at least.

You want to actually compress the dynamic range? Bad, bad idea. If you were to go to a live concert, this is not possible and since the goal of hi-fi audio is to get as close as possible to the live event, it should not be done to recordings.

Neil - who hopes Chris never gets involved with the audio industry
