  1. C'mon, Neil... it seriously wasn't THAT bad.

Then tell me how my points are wrong. As far as I'm concerned, the movie is that bad. It's awful. It's junk.

How people are enjoying it is beyond me. You go ahead and watch it and enjoy it. I'd rather spend my time viewing a quality film.

  2. They hate the movies becasue the chopped scores (although the movies are good)

Nah, I don't hate Attack of the Clones for that reason, I hate it because it is amateurish in every single way conceivable. It's very nice looking, but then so was The Phantom Menace. We've already been dazzled by the awesome visual groundwork Lucas laid out in TPM and AOTC was a real opportunity to really dive into the story. Instead he decided to dazzle us again, and this time it just didn't work.

I'm sure an interesting story could have been told, but this just wasn't it. Everyone involved made a big deal about how it was a love story, yet at no point throughout the films plodding 140 minutes did Anakin do anything remotely appealing to attract Padme. He did some magic tricks with the Force and then slaughtered the sand people, and the next thing you know Padme is in love with him. This sort of action might work in John Hinkley's warped mind, but to everyone else it doesn't make any sense.

What was the point of Jango Fett being in the movie? Apparently he's some bad-ass bounty hunter that I would think was selected personally by Syfo-Dias to make the army of clones, yet nobody knows who he is. I would think he would be on several "Most Wanted" lists. And if he's such a great specimen, why is he so easily defeated? And don't get me started on "baby" Boba Fett. Lucas managed to rob all of the mystery surrounding this character pretty easily, and not for the better. Part of Boba Fett's appeal was that he was an important element of Empire even though he's barely on screen. That's his appeal. Showing him as a kid robs the character of everything he had going for him.

Clones' pace was also very un-Star Wars-like. It was s-l-o-w. It was dull. Compare the amazing asteroid chase from The Empire Strikes Back to the less than inspiring asteroid chase in this movie. You can't! Empire is such a better made movie, that it makes Clones look like a high school production. But there's more! The horrible fight in the rain is a prime example of an un-exciting "action" sequence. When Jango is climbing ths roof he does it in such a slow way (I know, it's slippery and wet) that the pace of the scene is destroyed. What about the total lack of suspense when the Jedi are surrounded by Dooku's forces and only at the last minute are saved by the clones? I'm guessing this was supposed to be a tense scene. It certainly doesn't play that way. It comes across as being just flat and un-involving. This then leads to some of the least exciting action scenes I've ever seen.

There are many more issues in this film that bother me as well. The "acting" is embarassing by any definition. I was literaly squiriming in my seat as I watched this movie. The only actor who isn't a total waste in this is Christopher Lee. Too bad his part isn't interesting at all. I think the point in having him in the movie at all is so that Yoda has someone cool to fight. Excuse me for being so vulgar, but the final duel is the ultimate fan-boy wet dream.

These are the reason why I dislike Attack of the Clones. It was a total waste of my money and time. I almost regret the one time I saw the movie.

  3. I watched the fireworks show on A&E. "pops goes the fourth"

They played a bunch of themes like the Backdraft theme.  Funny, when I hear Backdraft, I immediately think it as the Iron Chef theme

    -K-

I saw that and it annoyed me. The announcer clearly said the fireworks would be accompanied by music by American composers, yet Hans Zimmer was born in Germany.

  4. I heard Liberty Fanfare (i believe that's it) with some fireworks.  I didn't know JW had written that.  It must be new.

It was written in 1986 for the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty.

There are 2 recordings of it available. One is on Phillips and the other is on the recent "Call of the Champions" CD.

    Neil

I thought it was written for the re-dedication of the statue.

What version of the cd do you have? Mine doesn't have Liberty Fanfare on it.

    ~Harry

You are correct. It's not on the Sony disc. I was getting it confused with "The Mission".

It is on this album however.

  6. Star Trek for me. It has provided countless more hours of enjoyment for me. Even though I "only" like the original series and The Next Generation and the feature films, that is far more hours than the 4 hours of enjoyment that Star Wars has given me (the approximate combined running time of Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back).

Sure, Star Trek is not perfect ("Spock's Brain" anyone?) but I'd rather take that then the mess that is Attack of the Clones or Return of the Jedi.

Now, what's worse, Attack of the Clones or Voyager? That's a debate I don't want to touch. :baaa:

  7. Hector is correct, Superman - The Movie is the score to get. Make sure it's the 2 disc Rhino set, as that is complete. Wonderful music! My favorite score. It's in my car CD changer right now.

Let me also agree with AHerrera83, who mentions Goldsmith's Star Trek - The Motion Picture. This is another favorite of mine, and is also coincidentally in my car's CD changer right now. :)

  8. Wrong! AMC is now running commercials during the films and are not always showing the films in the correct aspect ratio. They suck. Turner Classic Movies rules!

Neil - who'll probably watch a little bit of the Indy films anyway (it's my duty as an American) :)

  9. Anybody like that sound that Johnny makes in his classical stuff like the Cello Cadenza or around 3:16 of "Immigration and Building" or the orchestration in the first two parts of TreeSong or the beginning of "Arts and Sports" or the pool flashback scene from Minority Report?

    Johnny does.

  10. My dad raised me on classical music and he bought me the occasional soundtrack. I got Goldsmith's first Star Trek score when I was 3 years old and immediately took to it (though at the time "Klingon Battle" scared the hell out of me, and I would walk out of the room as it played). Then I started to get albums by John Williams (the score to Raiders being my first Williams album I think). Not much else to tell.

  11. like how they put the love theme as the opening of the expanded Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Star Trek - The Motion Picture always started with Ilia's Theme as an overture. The original film used an edited version of the theme that clocked in at about 1:40, while the new "Director's Edition" uses the full 3:02 recording.

Anybody seen the film enough times and know the CD well enough to figure out if any of the tracks on the cd contain music from 2 different scenes?

I could be wrong, but I think "Everybody Runs!" has additional music in it. Also "Anderton's Great Escape" has additional percussion in the film when the car is running down the assembly line.
