  1. Noticed this awhile back, and was a bit confused. It seems like the Rhino Records attempts to fix it, but it still sounds different to what I've heard from the FSM release. I thought this was strange, so I put it into an audio editor, and tried shifting the pitch, to try and match it up with the End Titles, as that is what it's presumably supposed to sound like. The only thing is, they sound too different to be the same recording, as some have speculated. The brass, in particular. Also, some instruments are absent in one, wherein the other they are present. Also, the timing is most certainly different. Granted, that could just be down to the speed being changed when the pitch was shifted, and the different sounds of the instruments may just be due to the way they were mixed, but consider that this is the 70's we're talking about. You can only make a recording sound so different. Also, it's worth mentioning that the alternate 'Main Title March' from the Rhino Records release, as well as the concert version seem to use pieces of the opening, as presented on that same disc, which is also one of the other mysteries I've never been able figure out. Either way, Williams did good work here, and I'm glad that it exists at all. Been listening to this score since I was 5 years old, perhaps younger. I love it as it's presented in the film, regardless of any technical flaws. I always have.
