Parzival by wolfram von eschenbach was a 'grail romance' written in the late 12th century, in which the holy grail object is a stone not a cup (i.e. before later authors 'christianised' the story) known as the 'gral'. this and certian other stories like it from the time are a key part of evidence that seems to point to the holy grail not being a separate object from, but rather a symbol for, the lost ark of the covenant. even more possible JW references!
