I started reading the interview/conversation when I got to the part when Steven taks about "The Color Purple." Nice talk, and then,
J.W. I loved the Color Purple, its one of your best, and I understand why you couldn't use my score. Besides I think the music used is fine.S.S. Well when the special edition dvd is released your score will be part of the extras.
I never knew Williams actually wrote something for the film! That's friggin' awesome! Oh myGod! Give me that DVD now!!! No, not tomorrow! NOW! (sorry for the all caps...I needed to really dirve that point home)
And he expects "Catch Me" to be his only nomination? No....naturally, I haven't heard the score, but I'd vote for "Minority Report" before "Catch Me."
And he's going to be doing all of Harry Potter #3? Awesome!
(Five minutes later, after Jeff has read all of the posts)....
then LOL LOL then
Jeff -- feeling like a nincompoop for not noticing the signs

I was an extra in the film "Courage Under Fire," and Denzel Washington was in my scene. Of course, I didn't meet him, but we did breathe the same air.
I've met some sports celebrities, but they're not of Michael Jordan caliber.
That's it.

I'd take it for completion's sake, since I have the complete scores to the previous four.
But I'd probably skip some tracks, like I do for the Phantom Menace.
-
Matt, let me tell you that I really enjoyed reading your lyrics. It flowed nicely...after I stopped tumbling over the melody.
I think Ren will like it too.
Oh Ren, where are youuuuuuuuuu??

Always happy to welcome a future John Williams fan.
Mazzle -tov! (sic)

I don't mind Lucas fixing older shoddy effects, adding scenery scenes, only if it doesn't alter the story, that's what I mean.
K.M.
Me neither, except when he alters scenes, he ruins the music, whch is a crime punishable only by death. Especially when it abrupts the flow of the final 30 minutes of "The Empire Strikes Back."

I'm as anxious as you, Adoy. I want all the Ashman/Menken Disney musicals on DVD. And "Aladdin" is my favorite among those ("The Lion King" ranks higher though), which means that Murphy's Law will dictate that these two will be the last to be released from the Disney catalog.
I'm patient, though. Movies that good are worth the wait.
Jeff -- who thinks the excellent "Hunchback of Notre Dame" DVD is a sign of good things for the future

I was one of the ones who fell into Joe's trap. It didn't seem too far-fetched. I nfact, people were discussing that very thing back when Ewan McGregor was cast in Ep. 1...they wanted continuity.
Now that I see this with fresh eyes, I'd like to replace my bawling with LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL.
-
I'm trying Ren! But I'm no Leslie Bricusse.

Hmmm. From the looks of it, I think you're saying that you're OK with the use of the cannibalized music during the droid battle in AOTC. After all, AOTC is Star Wars.
The difference is that the edits in AOTC made no musical sense. And in ROTJ, the reused bits are either re-recordings or re-orchestrations/variations which make them definitely worth having with the ANH versions.
Yeah, I said that after the fact.

Yeah, Marian had me worried, too.
I'm not that worried about the William Ross situation. I'm sure it'll all come out in the wash.

OK Major. I did hear that that one scene did have different music, but I've never heard it. The Deluxe Edition does not have any alternate music. Everything on the Deluxe Edition is heard in the film....except for the first minute of "The Altar," which was retracked with the end of "Don't Tell Him."
-
Figo, who stands by his assertion that Superman has the more thrilling main title music.
I'm assuming you're saying that mainly because the "Superman" main titles are longer and therefore you have more music to enjoy? If so, it's a valid reason.
Jeff -- who stands by his assertion that "Star Wars" has the most thrilling main title music.
-
At the time I was taken aback at the reused bits of score, but I have since made peace with it; it's not a lot, it wasn't tracked in but actually played that way, and more importantly it works.
Yeah, I don't mind it at all because it's a rerecording, not re-tracked music. So it was obviously planned, and, unlike AOTC, it works.
-
Oh yeah, I forgot about Cathy's death. That one's good, too.
And what do you mean about the dog scene being rescored and the alternate is on the CD? Which track? That's interesting news.
And I'm assuming you're talking about the scene with the choral whispers.
Jeff -- who probably gets odd looks when he's blasting "Ave Satani" in his car and singing along.
-
"Home Alone" is the best. Though, like "Harry Potter," is takes about four themes and reworks them, "Home Alone" ... well, is a better experience from beginning to end, more in the film than on the CD because of all the traditional songs thrown in the middle.
"Man of the House" is the best cue.
-
but for what was then unthinkable to me: the cannibalizing of music from ANH, particularly Tie Fighter Attack and The Battle of Yavin for use in Sail Barge Attack.
Hey, ROTJ is Star Wars. I don't see the problem is reusing ANH music. It already uses it's themes.
Hmmm. From the looks of it, I think you're saying that you're OK with the use of the cannibalized music during the droid battle in AOTC. After all, AOTC is Star Wars.
But I do see what you're trying to say.
-
I can't answer the march question, but Mason Daring has been John Sayles' composer since the 1980s.
Sayles wrote and directed "Lone Star," "Brother From Another Planet" and the new "Sunshine State," among others. He's a great storyteller.
-
I think pitting these scores against each other is odd. But it is an interesting competition.
I'm picking ET based solely on the final 18 minutes and what the music AND visuals do to me emotionally. bawling Plus, the 1:45 before that is pretty moving itself.
Schindler's List does the same, but the music doesn't service the film in the exact same way.
-
It's a great score! Sorry that I never chimed in with that opinion before.
One of my favorite themes is the Emperor's theme. It truly is dark and foreboding. That male chorus is always creepy.
As far as individual cues, I enjoy the "Attack on the Sail Barge" and the truly moving cue where Luke and Vader battle for the last time.
I think the opening sequences in Jabba's palace aren't that exciting, but I still enjoy listening to that synth as Luke enters the lair, with the massive door opening and that Jedi hood. Goosebumps.
Score gets a 9 out of 10. "Star Wars" and "The Empire Strikes Back" get perfect 10s. The prequel scores get 7 out of 10.

Loved the Yoda dialogue.

Sadly, no. And I found this out at the Austin, Texas, premiere of the film, when I invited 10 of my friends to see my film debut.
And it's not on the DVD either.
