  1. Great review GaryM, much more detailed than my own. Pete Corrigan: I attended both the reviewed concert and the MSO concert in March and in my humble opinion the latter performance was superior. The horn section of the SSO seemed rather lazy during the more complex passages and stuffed up a couple of times. Couldn't fault the first violins though, especially Kirsten Williams. I always get the feeling from SSO concerts that their management are too classically elitist to appreciate modern film music, which is why they need guest comedic comperes to spice things up. The MSO concert included some anecdotes from the principle violinist who had actually played under JW for 17 of his scores. Include me among the 1941 soundtrack owners - I have even watched the movie! Neither are up there with my favourites.
