  1. I would like to hear the piano reductions of Princess Leia's Theme, Anakin's Theme, and Across the Stars. Orchestra would definitely prevail for the others hands down.

Hehe  Those 3 pieces will indeed be played by the pianist...

There'll be also a wonderfull arrangment of the Imperial March piano solo, that will be followed by the original symphonic version (in Episode V End Titles).

Expect a special Duel of the Fates (duel between the Jedi-pianist against the orchestra and choir, symbolizing the Dark side of the Force (I'll conduct this piece in the Darth Vader's costume... ! )

    More surprises to come...

  2. Dear Friends,

I'm pleased to announce 3 great Star Wars Concerts in Paris, for the release of the last chapter of the Star Wars Saga.

I will conduct the Orchestre Cinématographique de Paris on

    Thursday May 17th 8.30 pm,

    and on

Wednesday May 18th 5.00 pm and 8.30 pm.

at the 13th district of Paris Townhall (place d'Italie).

This is kind of a special star wars night, based on a duel between a Piano Solo and an orchestra.

As you may know, all the Star Wars music was reduced by a brilliant pianist/composer: Enguerrand-Friedrich LÜHL (a CD is already available). The program will include music for piano solo, or for orchestra, and some music presented as Duels between the soloist and the choir/orchestra !

The program will also include the WORLD PREMIERE OF MUSIC FROM EPISODE III !!

    Here's the program:

    Main Title

    Princess Leia

    Anakin's Theme

    Imperial March

    The Forest Battle

    Episode V End Titles

    Flag Parade

    Episode II Love Theme

    Parade of the Ewoks

  3. Battlefield Earth is so bad you can't even laugh at it.

Oh yeah!!! a couple of years ago, I rented this movie with some friends in a videostore... we couldn't believe our eyes when we saw the movie...

it was soooo bad we didn't go through the end and just made fun of the movie... Well at least tryed to.

I think it has one of the best dialogue in all movie history, and best acting for that line "Do you want lunch ?" by John Travolta. A must see really ! :spiny:

  4. Phil, i'sn't it about time you and your ochestra head over to Amsterdam?

We need more Williams here man!

I've just planned a european tour on 2007... in every big city of Europe...

so Amsterdam isn't included.... Sorry man ! ;)

    Kidding !! bowdown

I hope it will soon be possible bowdown We have a big concert (perhaps) planned with a great french worldwide famous composer... but we'll still waiting for confirmation...

  5. Actually, there is a "mini" international film music festival already, in Auxerre France (150 km from Paris)

There was Maurice Jarre, Lalo Schifrin, Vladimir Cosma, Michael Kamen, Bruno Coulais who conducted their own music.

With conferences, lectures, with the participation of french filmmakers such as Leconte, Besson...

But this is also a film competition festival... but it grows bigger and bigger each year....

MSM, maybe we should associate, as we got the same ideas, and make THE best film music festival in the world :)

    Philippe BL :)

  6. Sweet! I'm looking forward to seeing the movie,

Wow... I didn't even know this was being released !!!

but I'm even more excited to hear what Uematsu's cooked up for it. I can't wait to see how he incorporates his classic themes from FF VII, his second best score IMO (FF VI being his best).

I totally agree on this one. FFVI is perhaps the "Star Wars score of videogames".

Not to mention finally getting to do a full film score finally, this is his first I believe.

Yes, it's his first, and so I'm really looking forward to hearing it.

Thanks a lot for the info

  7. In France, most of the film festivals has music related event such as concerts... and sometimes more, as in the Auxerre music festival, or the Luneville film music festival:

Piovani, Jarre, Cosma, Coulais, Schifrin and especially Kamen were there once or twice... some of them even did a lecture on film music.

Unfortunately, there still isn't a FILM MUSIC FESTIVAL, entirely devoted to composers, scoring technique, concerts and lectures.

  8. Again some very sad news... I loved his music for Laura....

John Williams loved the composer's music also, he told that in a live concert in Tanglewoods with the pops in 1999 where he played the love theme...

A golden era has truly gone, with him, Kamen and Goldsmith.

  9. There is no corporate consipracy: it is standard operating procedure to not stream live orchestra and opera broadcasts in many instances.  This has far more to do with the orchestra musicians' contract than with any fear that someone will sell a CD-R on eBay.  In addition to WGBH, both WMNR and WFCR broadcast the Tanglewood concerts live over the air, but these latter two stations have notices on their web sites stating that Tanglewood broadcasts are not carried on the Internet stream.  WGBH's site never said the concert would stream; it merely said that the concert would be broadcast (over the air), which it was.  It would have caused less confsuion had WGBH posted a similar disclaimer, certainly, but anyone who said that the concert would be streamed was jumping to conclusions.

Correct... However, two years ago, the very same radio did broadcast through the internet a JW (half classical, half film music) concert...

Fortunately, however, someone at WMNR forgot to flip the switch and the entire concert (well, up through the second movement of "American Journey," which is playing as I type) was streamed over the web.  The RealAudio sound quality was fairly lousy, but at least there was only one brief hiccup in the stream during the horn concerto.

That's good news.... tell us if you can do something of it.

(Actually, all the misspellings of "Shostakovich" here are nearly worse than the actual cancellation).

Actually, that's how we write it here: Chostakovitch. :|

Philippe BL (really pissed off he couldn't listen to it)

  10. My God I can't believe it.

I'm at a friend's ( who's also really fan of JW), hoping to listen for this concert, and then Chostakovitch and Schumann....

I wrote to the radio.... I guess they at last will have like a hundred message concerning this false advertising...

    Philippe BL banghead

Ps: Nice thread-title change, Neil.

  11. Wow.... I remember this 2000 (or was it 2001) of JW conducting classic works live on the internet... I woke up at 3.00 am to record it....

I guess I won't be home on August 1st. Can someone record it please ?

    Thanks

Philippe BL - who will just miss that fantastic concert even on the net

  12. A great man has passed away... perhaps the most intriguing and energetic film music composer I've ever listened to.

May we never forget his music, and remember him as one of the most prolific and intense film music composer.

    PhilippeBL :music:

(who would have wanted to listen to Capricorn One or Massada today but can't)

  13. Wow... how lucky you are...

Would you please share with us this rare moment of intimacy with the maestro ? the anecdotes and all...

And tell him about how many fans there are waiting for him to do a concert in Europe (London 2005 yeah!!!) but why not Netherlands 2006 and/or France 2007 ?? :P

    Philippe BL

    Pianist-Conductor

  14. Hi everyone

It's been a long time since I've posted on this board, and I realize that some of you may not know me (or even worse remember me)...

Anyway, I just wanted to say that, as Mr Breathmask used the opportunity to write here while on holidays, I'm for 2 weeks in Siena Italy for a conducting academy. I've met some other pupils in conducting and a few of them are also fond of John Williams and film music in general, so I'm not alone out there.

I'll be staying there for a few more days, looking for some JW's rarities in the CDs shop, but I'm not sure I'll find something.

I'm glad to hear that the LSO will perform a great amout of film music on July 29th. Unfortunately, I'll still be in Italy then.

I hope you're all doing well, and hope we'll finaly see each other in London in 2005 for the GREAT concert.

    Sincerely,

    Philippe BL

  15. Soon, the sheet music from the CD: John Williams on Piano by Enguerrand-Friedrich LÜHL will be available...

If you don't know this ablum yet, you can ask Ren or Neil, they have already bought it

I expect the sheet music to be thrilling, but also exhausting to play, and need quite a practise to play.

    Philippe BL

  16. In response of KING MARK first post, I do know 2 great John Williams fanatics (actually 2 professional pianists, one of whom has recorded the John Williams' on piano CD with his own arrangements) who doesn't have a computer (nor a TV set mind you), and has the most wonderful collection of pictures signed, Soundtracks but also orchestral scores (even some manuscript) of John. But he only visits this website when he comes to my house !!

Is beeing a JW fanatic implies buying a computer ? I'm pretty sure John doesn't need one, nor actually have one.

But this is going nowhere. WE ARE THE BEST JOHN WILLIAMS' FAN IN THE WORLD... with all the geeks around here... :) (kidding!)

PBL - who has conducted and/or played many times JW's music on concert and ever will (even on "classical" recital)

  17. I came around I guess in May also... it was like finding the eldorado back then

I sure remember the first pages with the mp3s...

I was back then on the forum called "The Maestro".

    Can't believe it's been 5 years already...
