  1. I beg to differ. There is no scene in the book where Legolas heroically swings on spider-web like Tarzan to save Evangeline Lilly from being the lunch of a monstrous spider, with Thorin (now renamed Giimli) shouting "That pointy-eared *****!".

(also, someone should really screencap that Wrath of Khan "humour is difficult concept" subtitle...)

  2. This set is the worst thing ever MV should be ashamed of himself, letting John Williams near it was a recipe for disaster, everyone involved should be ashamed of themselves and quit the soundtrack-making world forever. Still, it's better than it would have been if Varese had done it.

    That bad?

Yep. When you get your copy you should just throw it straight in the bin, I mean the CD case will be cracked anyway.

The worst thing: no acknowledgement for Angela Morley. Makes my blood boil.

  3. INTRADA Announces:

    THE RED HOUSE

    Composed by MIKLOS ROZSA

    Conducted by ALLAN WILSON

Performed by ROYAL NATIONAL SCOTTISH ORCHESTRA

    WINCHESTER CATHEDRAL CHAMBER CHOIR

Intrada's latest release in its Excalibur Collection features the premiere of Miklos Rozsa's complete score to the 1947 film The Red House. The unique combination of the 1940s and the film-noir genre provided Rozsa with an opportunity to compose some of his most stunning film scores. The Red House is one of the greatest of these scores. Full of passion, action, and drama, the score has only previously been released in suite format. Kevin Kaska reconstructed the entire score from scratch, ensuring strict adherence to Rozsa's original orchestrations and resulting in a CD of the complete score running over an hour. In all of Rozsa's extensive body of work, it is no exaggeration to state that this score contains some of the most compelling music he had ever composed and it is an honor for Intrada to announce this on what would been Rozsa's 105th birthday.

Starring Edward G. Robinson and based on the novel by George Agnew Chamberlain, the story tells of a crippled farmer who, after his daughter brings home a suitor, attempts to keep everyone from a mysterious red house located on his property. Of course, madness and murder prevail.

This is awesome news, it's such a great score. For a sample, listen to the suite on Charles Gerhardt's album Spellbound: The Classic Film Scores of Miklos Rozsa. Great stuff.

  4. Birth of a nation is an obvious one, the same with Potemkin, at least where editing is concerned. Triumph of the Will also. The Jazz Singer. Kong certainly, especially for us as it contained the first ever real film score.

More recently, Star Wars, Pulp Fiction, Raiders, Jaws, The Godfather, The Searchers, Goodfellas, Se7en. Altman's movies like M*A*S*H, Snow White and Toy Story, T2.

Could go on forever really in different categories etc.

  5. From the liner notes of The Deluxe Edition:

Ironically, with the incredible popularity of both of his previous Omen scores, The Final Conflict came to theaters at a time when releases of orchestral film scores as soundtrack albums were becoming rarer. The Final Conflict was released in 1981 and, par for the times, was not accompanied by a soundtrack. It wasn't until five years later that Masters Film Music took on this score as its first release to be distributed by Varese Sarabande Records.

So, in a nutshell, it's Giorgio Moroder's fault

  6. Loved the episode, greatness.

Brill: Tyrion's scheming, Varys' speech, Brienne, the hilarious attempted consumation (and Margaery's tits!), and well done with Theon - I used to hate him, but that little scene with him and his pops was really well done. The dinner scene with Cersei made me audibly boo her. Good stuff!

Boo: Loras really is a twat, and his hair is annoying.

Next one looks good. I can honestly say that this is about the only film/show where I don't care about the music. The underscore is certainly bland, but I think that's a good thing as it can just be background ambience to the dialogue etc. It's usually ok during the bits it needs to be, but I love the show so much I find it hard to really care.
