  1. Sure it can. Rhythmic motifs can exist in tons of pieces by any composer to link them together. Like Beethoven's 5th, for example...it's in cyclic form, and it's sort of interconnected by many different things, including that famous triplet-firmata theme from the beginning. You know, Beethoven called it "fate knocking at the door." LOL
  2. It's nice to see that people express their opinions without fear. I've never heard that score, and I'm sure it's ok. However, I remember that when I saw the movie, the music didn't really impress me or stick out in my mind like it did in Star Wars Episode II...man I love that loooooove theme. I was singing it all the way home from the theatre.
  3. I don't feel like reading all of these...I'm sorry...I only keep up with the last few. Who wrote the music to "Lord of the Rings" again? Thanks in advance.
  4. Ah. Well thanks for clearing that up. Yeah...I'm sorry to say that I have never really listened to much Mahler...only what we've studied in school. Anyway, I have heard nothing but good things about him, and now I'm tempted to hear that sixth symphony. Umm...not because I want to hear your death music or anything... :?
  5. Wow. Yeah, I've never imagined it that way before, but you are right. It does sort of have that desolate feeling. I'll have to picture that when I listen to it again. Good imagery there.
  6. Is that the one with the "Frere Jacques" motif? You know...that little children's tune in minor mode...funeral march...is that the right one? Or am I on crack?
  7. Awww thanks. Yes, I do appreciate Elfman. He's my second favorite movie composer. And as far as my FIRST choice, (hmm who could it be?) I think HE is the greatest composer of the 20th century.
  8. I don't have nearly enough JW soundtracks. but overall, I can tell you guys the ones that move me most from what I have. Cinque's Theme from Amistad. Across the Stars (Love theme) from Attack of the Clones Toys from E.T. Princess Leia's theme...I know it's not really SAD, per se, but it sure is moving. I can't listen to it and not cry!
  9. I think Elfman writes with such style and longing and passion. Of course he's bound to "copy" himself every now and then...ALL the good composers do. It's what makes their music recognizable. I think we should just enjoy Elfman's scores while they last!
