La-La-Land often includes the original album as well... so the first 2 CDs will be the complete score, while the third disc contains the old album plus some alternates.

Williams' action cues doesn't have that oomph that gets your adrenaline pumping wildly.
It certainly does for me! To me, he is one of the only film composers that creates really unique, complex and interesting underscore and action music. I can sit and listen to some of my favorite action setpieces (Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - Jungle Chase, Phantom Menace - rescuing the queen/ hanger battle etc for example) and it's just really engaging. Some of the stuff makes you wonder what the heck will come next...
I get tired of hearing action music by some other composers that just consists of an ostinato for a really long time with some big brass punches.....or maybe just a cool rhtyhmic layer of percussion.
I like the fact that William's action music is so complex. It dances at times, gets up in your face, moment of silence, mickey-mouses with what's on the screen, always changing and always fun (or at least almost always).

I'm not going to get excited at all for Hook, I already did that last November. I will assume it is something sucky, and then I shall be pleasantly surprised.

I have been wondering since POA came out if it was Williams' idea to musically shift tones so drastically or if it was director's idea. I love POA, don't get me wrong...but I prefer the magical feeling of Philosophers stone/ chamber of secrets. Does anyone know why the change to more Renaissance feel?

Williams: How to Steal a Million.
Both album and score releases.
I love the jazzy moments. Many parts of this score just scream "fun" to me. I always enjoy scores that sound like the composer had a lot of fun writing the music, and this is one of them to me.

This was one of the first Williams pieces that I fell in love with. My parents got me the two CD Greatest Hits set and at that point the only scores I had were star wars SE CDs, TLC, Jurassic Park and TPM. What a magical time that was, I was so new to Williams it was an adventure to listen to each new track!
I remember being blown away by the end section of STH. I loved the low brass repeating figure and the trumpets flourishing on top of the melody. Exciting stuff!.

I chose the Trade Federation March. It could be made into a piece similar to the Imperial March with a cool middle section in betwween the strong statements of the March itself.

I've never hear INCEPTION though a lot of my non-film-score-fanatic-friends say its so awesome...
Also haven't heard much of the golden age guys (Alfred Newman, Tiompkin, Steiner, Waxman, and others).

That's pretty sad about Alien3. I guess thBD ISO score is as good as it gets...but I shouldn't complain. They've released a ton of awesomeness so far

Hey, I agree with you. Once you get passed the overplayed pop song, I really do like the score quite a lot, and would be VERY interested in a truely complete presentation. I just don't understand the big labels. If you're going to press 4 CD sets of something, WHY NOT put some love into it? Do it right.

I seriously had good feelings that we would get complete scores to time out with the Blu-rays...obvisouly it was a false reading in the Force. But if they don't release them along with the 3d films....well, I am going to be so old when star wars scores get a propper release...

I am listening through the Goldsmith CDs that I've amassed but haven't had time to listen to.
I just finished The Blue Max.
Anyone a fan of this one? I quite liked the main theme and the older sound of the score. Parts of it allllllmost sound like Williams....or at least my wife mistook it for a Williams score at first (she is starting to pick up on his sound from my bombarding our house with John Williams pretty consistently LOL).
Anyway, its great to have more Jerry Goldsmith in life, I think he had an amazing gift for crafting memorable and often times very beautiful melodies.

I feel the same, Stefan. I am currently trying to do the same as you...figuring out Reaper. My issue is that I'm too busy with work to get a decent ammount of hours set aside to figure it out.

My 8th grade history teacher had the class watch this movie. I can barely remember it, but what I do remember was that it was entertaining in a goofy/ quirky way. It doesn't take itself very seriously and has some good dry humor.though is definitely has a corny feel.

Daniel Craig is going to look like a WUSSY running around against some crap action music from Finding Nemo! Rubbish!

I know this is beating a dead horse but...I'm pretty disappointed by the Newman news. Sure, I'll be interested to hear it but I've been loving the Arnold scores. I hope I will be pleasantly surprised...

That's cool that you compose with a story in mind, definitely a great inspiration for writing music. I do the same sometimes
As you compose more of the story, post more (ifyou want). Ill be interested in how the story continues!
