  1. LLL has definitely has some new William/Spielbergs projects in store for us in the near future- I dont know if all of them will materialise this year. But AI will be enough to enjoy in the interim period. I'm still ravishing over their majestic EMPIRE OF THE SUN. Maybe Intrada could surprise us with a definitive JAWS issue-Im speculating of course.. :sarcasm:

  2. The OST is, actually, a pretty good representation of the score. It has all the major cues, and...er...that's pertty much it...

Er... you're wrong, sorry. While the OST can be a fine listen on its own and surely contains several key highlights, it does not represent the score in all its subtlety, nuances and true musical fashion. As others said, it omits almost completely the music from the first act of the film and some really gorgeous connective tissue material where the thematic material is further explored and taken to new directions (JW is a master of the theme-and-variations approach).

A.I. maybe doesn't have the same tone poem-like narrative flow as Superman, Raiders, Star Wars or Harry Potter--it's a real strange and almost "schizophrenic" score, but when listened in complete and chronological form, it becomes a very powerful and moving musical journey from beginning to end.

Yes, I'll agree with TownerFan. In fact I even disliked the the way the album begins with 'The Mecha World' track. It should have been the 2nd track on the album like 'Cadillac of the Skies' that begins on EMPIRE OF THE SUN after Suo Gan . The album should have instead started with 'Where Dreams Are Born' cue which is the main theme and perhaps could have been also reprised as the last tarck on the cd. Still the new linear approach to the AI score will be worth it.

  3. Apart from this expansion set of AI it is indeed gratifying to know that LLL through the professional expertise of Mike Mattessino have managed to forge a very good trust worthy relationship with both Williams and Spielberg's offices. LLL has already alluded to this fact that these will forge further releases from them in the near future ( and I guess these are probably in pre-production since revealed last year in an on-line interview and recently on the FSM)

So what's on their agenda? Well I know nothing but I would speculate that the breathtaking restorations of the recent EMPIRE OF THE SUN and AI will surely pave way for release of very Important scores. Definitive 'stand alone' scores from the Indiana Jones saga, Jurassic Park and Lost World and also CE3K and ET. JAWS could already be in the works from Intrada with the requisite re-mastering since we are expecting a major release to tie in with that labels anniversary. They have already issued other JAWS sequel scores except JAWS 2 which could be tied up with Varese but things change at the last minute. Lets see. But right now I'am very excited to grace the new AI set next month.

  4. Great News!

La La Land gearing up for another JOHN WILLIAMS title for a possible May release!

Here is what LLL post on their Facebook Empire of the Sun message:

Did I mention that we are wrapping up another William's expansion now? Artwork goes into the studio for approval shortly. Hopefully by May we will see the final product.

I'll say the Gates at Warner bros have been opened ;) let the speculation begin!
  5. I would speculate that the next line of title could easily be from the Warner archive or even Universal. Since the success of EMPIRE OF THE SUN to which even Mike Mattessino eluded to one of his essays as opening to new doors/projects. And we have been lucky with LLL's recent batch of goodies such as HOOK, JANE EYRE, HOME ALONE 1 & 2, ROSEWOOD, 1941 and now EMPIRE OF THE SUN so lets see. Make a wish list and the likely release title are in there.

  6. Jason....Why do you keep asking who am i? You and i are even friends on Facebook and MV is a friend too...so there ;)

Sorry, I guess I get sensitive about labels getting to announce their own projects instead of fans announcing things for them. But this obviously is the exact opposite of an announcement, just the reveal that a delay happened that he hadn't posted publicly himself yet. Since he has told both you and me that it was delayed, I am sure he doesn't mind it being "out there" that the Williams title they brought up in that radio interview has been delayed.

I was just having a bad day yesterday, sorry about that! Peace and love!

"Apology Accepted,..... General Needa"...LOL. Seriously no issue here and you have rounded out my good intentions, so thank you ! cheers and my salams to you.

  7. Ah OK.

Well I guess I can reveal that MV told me the same thing.

Hopefully the necessary approvals will happen soon. Nothing we, and the guys at LLL, can do but wait!

I agree. Lets hope that its not a big delay to this exquisite release. But I can also add that MV teased as follows " ... 2015 will have some great stuff by him :) "

Who are you and why is MV telling you this stuff?

Jason....Why do you keep asking who am i? You and i are even friends on Facebook and MV is a friend too...so there ;)

  11. Ludwig,

I also think the possibility of thinking of using existing pieces of classical repertoire might have been discussed in the very early stages of the meetings. Williams own quote "I felt we needed our own themes" super imposes the thought that other existing themes/music may have been considered. The above quotes that you refer to while accurate reflect the mood of when it was strongly decided to go with an original symphonic score. The quotes more or less gravitate with the sole idea of creating a brand new original themes and mood of the film. Just my few cents here. Look forward to order my copy too.

  13. I really hope that both EMPIRE OF THE SUN and JFK get a good remaster and an expansion some day soon. Also BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY needs to get a proper expansion as well. Not seen that film in ages but Im sure there must be more unrelased music on that one.

Really looking forward to the ROSEWOOD expansion. I like the earthy home and hearth feel in the music and the love theme really resonates well; and good cues were all missed on the OST. Good to know all the gospel songs are on the 2nd disc.

  14. An autograph makes an otherwise mundane artifact instantly more rare than what most other people can buy, which can make it a very sentimental collector's piece, if you're into that sort of thing. If not, then it wouldn't hold any fascination.

True. But for me its more than just sentimental. Its something like being associated with part of history! 100 years from now this will be considered a real treasure!
