I want to transcrtipt JW Scores but I think I must have a permission for this... Where and how can I have a permission? and Can I play in my concert? (Just for education)

Not entirely sure of the exact up-to-date rules for this, but I think that if you are arranging a piece you can just go ahead and do it - performance is fine providing it's limited to your own band - but if you intend to publish or promote the work to other bands you do need to have permission - and who you get permission from depends on what piece you are doing.

Perhaps someone with more precise knowledge can correct me?

As long as you're just doing it for fun and not making any money from it there shouldn't be a problem. If you're making a profit, then you might have to secure permission.

The point usually isn't whether money is generated, but if/how the result is distributed. For example, making a fully orchestra transcription of a complete Williams score and distributing the printed score for free would still be a violation of copyright.

Marian - who would like film scores to be open source.
