Garrett 153
I just discovered something! It always seemed weird to me that John Williams wrote at entire concert suite called “The Adventures of Mutt” for Indy’s son, and then hardly even used it in the film. In fact, for years, I thought that Williams only used it once (for the Jungle Chase scene). But it turns out, he used it twice! It also appears in a Whirl Through the Acadame, 3:13-3:20. Listen to the 14 descending major key notes. Now, listen to The Adventures of Mutt 0:30-0:32. The same 14 descending note motif. The only difference is that it’s slightly faster. Also listen to The Adventures of Mutt 1:28-1:29. You’ll notice the same descending note pattern (this time 7 notes). Finally, listen to Finale, 5:13-5:16. (Same descending motif, this time 12 notes) I still find it odd that Williams never used Mutt’s B theme in either the film, or the end credits. But who knows? Maybe it is hiding subtly somewhere in the film, waiting for us to discover. Edmilson
