So can someone provide the exact division of the Secret of the Scrolls. Jason mentioned it comprised of 3 different cues. Should they all run together or are these just statements of the Secondary Mystery motif (and the Unicorn theme) from different parts of the film edited together by Williams into a suite?

So any thoughts on this?

I'm going by memory, as I saw the film yesteday: yes, it seems "Secret of the Scrolls" is comprised of at least 2 or 3 cues edited together in a suite-like fashion. I guess Williams wanted to tie together the cues that featured the Unicorn and Mystery themes prominently. However, from what I remember, the cues are featured almost in the same order as we hear it on the OST, albeit with more pause between each other.

I've only seen the film once, but if I'm not mistaken, the first part of the cue plays during the opening scene (right after "picking pockets"), then there's some unreleased music for the meeting between Tintin and Shakarine, and then the second part of the cue plays as Tintin arrives home.

Expect more updates after i've seen the film again today.

I have just seen the film so I try to write down all I can remember while it is still fresh in my mind. As many have noted all the major pieces of music are on the album, the remainder being very short or quite suspenceful or subtle pieces in general. They are usually what I would call connecting pieces between the longer cues.

And as always the memory is fallible and after seeing the film only once some of my observations might be mixed and muddled so please correct me if there are mistakes.

Tinker-Tin: Released, OST track 1

Tintin’s Introduction/Picking Pockets: Unreleased: : A waltzy accordion flavoured French source music sounding piece for Tintin's tour of the market and the pick pocketing Mr. Silk. Contains a wee reference to the Thompsons' theme I think and first rendition of Tintin's theme.

Tintin sees the Unicorn at the market: Partially released OST track 3, 0:00-1:33. Barnaby hurries to the scene and talks to Tintin. The music cuts off as Sakharine comes into view.

Meeting Sakharine: Unreleased

Snowy chases a cat and breask the model ship: track 3 1:33-1:58.

The Secret of the Scrolls p. 2: Partially released OST track 3. Tintin in the Library: This portion is missing a ghostly reading of the Unicorn theme and some underscore but the music continues from 1:58 forward although I can't remember exactly if the whole ending from 1:58 till the end was used for the scene.

Marlinspike Hall: Partially released OST track 5:

Tintin arrives at Marlinspike hall, enters and is chased by the guard dog until Snowy rescues him. He enters the building, sleuth's around gets knocked out by Nestor: 0:00-2:41:

If I remember correctly some music from the middle of the cue as Tintin is knocked out and comes to and speaks to Sakharine is missing. Additionally the opening 14 seconds with Tintin's Secondary theme is clearly there despite some early analyses stating otherwise.

Tintin discovers the Scroll, Barnaby arrives and warns Tintin, drive-by: Track 5: 2:42-end.

Introducing the Thompsons: Partially released OST track 4a (0:00-0:34)

Thomson(?) falling down the stairs music is missing.

Chasing Mr. Silk: Released, OST track 4a (0:34 – 2:10)

Snowy’s Chase: Released, OST track 4b (2:10 – end)

Sakharine interrogates Tintin: Rendition of the Unicorn theme

Tintin’s Escape/Meeting Captain Haddock:

This section covers several cues:

Sakharine and his falcon: Contains the Sakharine/Karaboudjan danger theme heard later on track Escape from Karaboudjan

Haddock's introduction

The ruckus at Haddock's cabin

Last of the Haddocks/The Radio Room: Partially released OST track 5a (0:00 – 0:14)

Escape from the Karaboudjan: Released, OST track 6

Captain Haddock Takes the Oars: Released, OST track 8

Capturing Mr. Silk: Released, OST track 10: I seem to recall only the Thompsons' theme portion (1:16-end) being used in the film as they meet Mr. Silk and escort him to his apartment.

Portuguese Plane: Unreleased: Contains a short heroic variation of Tintin's theme. I would wager less than a minute long piece.

Taking Off: Either a separate piece or the ending of the previous one. A short dramatic passage for the sea plane take-off.

The Flight to Bagghar: Released, OST track 11: Film version has a few small differences, probably inserts. One portion contains a very French sounding accordion passage as the pilots jump out of the plane and open their parachutes.

The Desert/Old Enemies Meet: Released, OST track 7. Some tracking and edits. I can't remember any significant differences compared to the OST.

Finding Tintin and Haddock: Unreleased

At Sword Point/Duelling Pirates/The Unicorn Sinks/To Bagghar!: Released, OST track 9: Contains a short unreleased portion with Haddock's theme as he continues to recount the Unicorn story.

Also the opening portion of track 10 is featured as Haddock is in the infirmary.

The Thompsons in Bagghar: Unreleased. Partially tracked from track 1, The Adventures of Tintin.

The Milanese Nightingale: Released, OST track 12

A classical orchestral selection plays before the next track

Presenting Bianca Castafiore: Released, OST track 13

All in all 5 pieces of music by other people than Williams were listed in the End Credits, two of them the classical selections in Presenting Bianca Castafiore.

The Pursuit of the Falcon: Released OST track 14

The Captain’s Counsel: Released, OST track 15

Capturing Sakharine: Unreleased: A short piece featuring Haddock's theme as he hoists Skkharine and his car with a crane.

Crane Fight/Crane Fight Pt. II/Haddock vs. Sakharine: Partially released, OST track 16: Missing as reported some of the Pirate Battle/Red Rackham music from the middle portion. The nervous motif at 1:52 which resembles Snowy's theme in its up-and-down motion underscores the actual duel between Haddock and Sakkharine.

The Return to Marlinspike Hall/Finale: As far as I could hear this piece is completely released on CD. Has in addition the Secondary Mystery/Scrolls theme rendition from the ending of track 3 as some others have reported as Haddock and Tintin uncover the hidden cellar entrance. There is a audible silence on track 17 at 2:34 where the Secondary Mystery theme segment should go, just before the oboe solo, underscoring the unearthing of the hole in the cellar wall.

END CREDITS SUITE:

Old Enemies Meet (Sir Francis and the Unicorn): Edited selections of the piece.
