  1. Yeah, that's awesome. Too bad it's not entirely FX-free in the making-of. Only the dinosaur sounds have been removed. The car, the rain, and everything else remains. That's awesome indeed, but what I want even more badly is the cue which leads up to Rescuing Sarah... Yeah, me too. Yeah Sarah , that's it, that's a great cue! It's unusual for Williams to omit good tracks. He always compiles his albums really well.
  2. Yeah what happened to that? also there are some great moments when the Raptor jumps on the roof to get the girl (damn it, the name...what's her name???)
  3. I listen to the music almost all the time before I watch the films. Almost always I enjoy the music a lot all by itself and it make no difference in my opinion for the score if the film was bad or not. For instance Seven Years is Tibet became inseparable from my CD player for months (actually I think it was a year and a half) before I got to watch the film. The music spoke to me so deeply that I didn't care about the film too much. I eventually watched it but the music had become a separate entity at that point. This happens with most Williams CDs. I love the music even before I watch the film. I had an experience of liking the music after I watched the film just twice. The first was (a long time ago) Brad Fiedel's Terminator 2 (yeah I know  ) and AI. On AI I was certain this was the weakest soundtrack in the Williams / Spielberg collaboration, until I watched the film. I was blown away how he portrayed the characters through the music. The musical description was so subdued and close to them that it was impossible to me to understand it until I first knew the characters really well. AI remains one of my favourite movies and the score is absolutely beautiful. On the other hand I watched films and film trailers that made me go and buy soundtracks too. It happened with Ruichi Sakamoto's Little Buddha and John Debbney's Passion of the Christ.
  4. erm... about 3.897.786.876 and counting? I'm sorry to deliberate like this but POA: watery orchestrations, far too simple themes for Williams and very repetitive and borderline boring action cues ROTS: Again action cues that leave you nothing to remember on the end of the listening experience, uninteresting orchestrations and even the main theme of Battle of the Heroes is unlistenable to me due to the bland orchestration and the weak recording. Only two cues saved the soundtrack for me : Anakin's Betrayal and Immolation Even the end titles were slow and lucked steam. As for TSS I suggest you take another listen 'cause there are tones of inspiring, rousing themes. Again for me this was the score that brought back the classic Williams style in terms of both Composition and Orchestration.
  5. And thank God he did, it gave Williams a kick on the backside to rediscover some elements that were missing from his writing for a long , long time PS is a masterpiece BUT I do love AI too (even from the CD)
  6. Yeah it is a great track, in fact my favourite from the CD, It was a real shame it wasn't used
  7. Well it's currently tied to be voted off this round. Obviously there's a discrepancy or a communication break down somewhere. Tim I know, I can't believe it to be honest, I was just voicing my opinion on the score that's all
  8. Philosopher's stone is the best score out of all of them .-
  9. Dunno, I couldn't hear this score more than four or five times max, Aunt Marge's Waltz was just under whelming and all the scary stuff wasn't inspirational or scary enough. Also the action music was just faceless without anything to remember after the track is gone. As for the themes it felt to me like it could be a work of any other composer around (except for Double Trouble) It just didn't feel like a Williams score to me, watery and un-complex orchestrations and unusually simple themes On the other hand the Philosopher’s stone feels and sounds like a true Williams masterpiece from all aspects
  10. I wouldn't be surprised nor angry. I love that score. Hmmm, it feels very rushed to me. And very overrated too, I prefer the other two scores to this one. Philosopher’s Stone all the way for me!
  11. You really love him then I did like him on Legend, and MI and also WOTW
  12. Dunno, I was saying this until I heard Romeo and Juliet by Tchaikovsky and I was truly blown away ( I was lucky enough to hear it from an amazing recording) I also heard Tristan And Isolde by Wagner and it took me a week to get over how emotional the love music is PS: Incanus I can't help but hear Gandalf's voice in my head every time I read you posts! LOL Damn this avatar of yours!!
  13. I like the guy, I have enjoyed most of his movies
  14. Terminal What's with this attack on AI? It has far better themes than MOAG (Moag?)
  15. This is my favourite track of all time (together with Battle in the Snow) However I thought this was about string pieces and not 'string moments' that's why I chose Arlington (which is awesome!) Otherwise there are tones of awesome moments
  16. CMIYC I thought it was the weakest Spielberg / Williams work
  17. Nah, I thought AI was really weak until I saw the movie and realised what an awesome score it is, The Blue fairy theme feels like it was always there and Williams just found it. Fantastic score. It takes a few goes to realise how fantastic it is I wouldn't agree with cartoonish, but I would agree there is an overabundance of fanfares. I'm not a huge fan of AOTC, I just think it's a little silly to call it crap. I agree with your assessment though. Williams doesn't do 'crap' scores!!! Praises would come from left right and centre if it was done by someone else, It's only not as good as he could have done, stil the Across the Stars is absolutely fantastic but all the action music has let me down. Also it feels underwhelming due to (in my opinion) the weak orchestration and recording.
  18. Arlington by veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery far A total work of genius!!!!
  19. I don't recall the figures, but in last polls PS wasn't a clear winner against PoA. This is a good way of getting a winner and also a good way to make a ranking. Yes, that's true. I voted for CMIYC again. I agree with you there MSM, The Philosopher's Stone will win I also think it's miles better than PoA or any of the other scores on the list
  20. Guess why you love Harry Potter so much! Try to listen to any Star Wars or Indiana Jones sometimes too! Mirko - who has just posted 3 eek emoticons and have yet to listen to Attack of the Clones. Um E.T. still doesn't stand up to SS and I've listened to Indiana Jones and SW and both of those still can't compete with HP. Thanks dude, Haven't laughed so much in ages!!
  21. Couldn't vote Different eras you guys. Totally different musical arenas. We could only Judge if Williams was born back then or Mozart was born today THEY BOTH NEED TO BE IN THE SAME ERA IN ORDER TO JUDGE THEM FAIRLY banghead Got it off my chest
