  1. I don't think it's any surprise that HP will win (I voted for it). What I'm really suprised in is people's hatred for Sith. If anyone thinks Sith is better than a Harry Potter score, than they're idiots or newbies or SW fanboys . . . Geeze guys, relax. Art is all a matter of opinion. I know I said it before, but I'm just glad to find others that actually dig Williams' music. I'm not about to swear off the boards if my favorite score isn't yours.
  2. Who said they hated it? It's in the top four, isn't it? (though I don't think it should be). But I still don't see what's so fantastic about it; there were heaps of missed opportunities in it (largely thanks to the missed opportunities in the film) and the end credits suite is disappointing. Still, it's better than AotC (but not as good as TPM). Then again, I hated the film. I love the film (I'm a SW fanboy) but I did listen to the score a long while before I saw the film, so I don't usually think about the movie when listening to it. There are great action cues, epic themes and I rather dug the end credits. Point being, I wonder if our viewpoint on the film has an effect (either concious or unconcious) on our choices. For example, I don't like the Harry Potter films. I just recently picked up the scores and have yet to really get into them (although I'm really diggin' PoA at the moment).
  3. What's with all the hatred for ROTS? Even with the tracks ripped from TPM and AOTC, it tops the list for me. Oh wait, lemme guess, I'm biased 'cause I'm a SW fan? Well, you're all biased 'cause your John Williams fans. How do you like them apples? (On a sidenote, I bare no ill will towards anyone on here. It's hard enough to find folks in real life that like John Williams, let alone orchestral so I do value all the members of the jwfan.net board. However, I do feel the need to vent from time to time so pay me no bother. *waves hand* These aren't the droids you're looking for. Move along.)
  4. Sorcerer's Stone Just wondering here . . . are the rest of you making your votes based on the Official CD that was released of the above films, or are you judging by the entire score used in the film, how it was used, etc? For me, it's a bit of both. I'm primarily going of the CD though.
  5. If ROTS isn't in the top three, I'm going to vomit.
  6. Whatever the outcome may be, I gotta give you all this: A lot of you seem to love the Terminal score dearly, so I think I just may pick that up and give it a close listen. Hopefully a week or two from now I can come back and say "How could I vote for Terminal?" whoa whoa whoa . . . 3 votes for ROTS? wtf
  7. . . . I don't know if it's good or not, but I enjoyed Williams scores for the popcorn movies much more than his scores for the serious ones.
  8. ^ Did you see all the animated films? Your thoughts, please! I only saw Wallace and Corpse Bride (I preferred Wallace). I hear Howl's is fantastic though.
  9. Popcorn, definitely. The Indiana Jones flicks are all great (Raiders being the greatest american made action movie, right above Die Hard, in my book). Jaws was the original and still one of the greatest popcorn flicks. Let us not forget Jurassic Park, Lost World, Minority Report, or War of the Worlds. I think his more dramatic films are flawed in a few ways, but that's okay 'cause those flicks are harder to make. Schindler's List I'd probably put at the top, followed by Empire and A.I. and Munich.
  10. I liked the Brokeback score personally, but it doesn't hold a candle to Williams' scores. Constant Gardener was nothing special. Have yet to hear Pride and Prejudice though . . . I'm trying to stay cautiously optimistic.
  11. I think it all depends on your opinion for an actor. For example, Ben Affleck. I'm sure the majority here are thinking, "Oh God, Ben Affleck. Couldn't act to save his life." While I (and at least Kevin Smith) am quite fond of the actor. It's like music . . . people have their preferences. Now for me, Tom Cruise is my favorite actor. Why? Well, because he's believable in every role and he has the greatest filmography of any actor. Period. I know what you're thinking, you're thinking "What about those 80's flicks! You can't like those!" Well . . . they're kind of fun on a cheesy level but not really good movies. But you take every Cruise movie since Mission: Impossible . . . and you've got a line-up of solid flicks. Tom has worked with a myriad of great directors and he's played many different roles. When I see Vanilla Sky and Collateral and Last Samurai, I don't see the same character. On a financial level, just about every one of his movies since MI 1 has made 100 million or more. Not that it matters to us when referring to one's acting skills, but I thought I just might throw that out there. To me, Cruise is versatile and has filmography that kicks the ass out of any other actor out there. But that's just me.
  12. Williams with two nominations! Kick some ass! That was my reaction. I don't really care about the oscars that much. I think Crash is probably the most overrated movie of the year though (well, that and Constant Gardener). I also thought it was funny that "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp" is actually up for an oscar ( . . . and I actually enjoyed the flick too). Aside from that, Star Wars should've gotten an oscar nod for sfx (it mopped the floor with King Kong) and War of the Worlds should definitely win for it's photo-realism. Aside from that, I'm just happy as a pig in shit for Williams.
  13. Well, I guess I'll try to explain myself. For the most part though, it won't help 'cause from what I can tell, this board loves Danny Elfman. I dig him too, don't get me wrong, but when it comes to Elfman's scores for Burton films, they all sound pretty similar to me. I'm not talkin' Hans Zimmer "similar" here, but similar enough. Now Elfman's theme for Batman . . . can't be topped. Hell, for nostalgia alone growing up with that theme (especially on the animated series) it just can't be beat; simple as that. Now, Batman Begins the movie is a much better film that Burton's Batman. It's set in a more real world (well, as real as you can get) and it finally got the most important piece; a good Bruce Wayne. So along with the movie, I think they crafted a score that fits more than an Elfman score would. Hell, at first glance I didn't even notice any themes or motifs and I was severely disapointed with the score. Upon repeat viewings of the film, there were a few sections that caught my eye and I eventually picked up the score. There are a few "themes" I guess you could say, and none of 'em hold a candle to Eflman's Batman theme . . . but one great theme does not make a great score, not in my eyes. While Burton's Batman has the kickin' theme, the rest is the usual Elfman/Burton score I'm pretty used to hearing. As for the Begins score, it's different enough and overall I think it's solid for those who give it a real listen and even multiple listens. Now, I doubt any of you will agree with me which is cool, but hopefully you can at least see where I'm coming from.
  14. . . . and I don't get why everyone thinks we (or at least I) hate the Terminal score. I don't hate any of the scores up there, it's simply my least favorite.
  15. Terminal again. On a sidenote, my name is Sean . . . so how awesome is that? I have a theme written by John Williams in my name!
  16. A.I., CMIYC, Terminal . . . which will go next?!?!?
  17. I knew I should've kept my mouth shut. See, that's what happens when you tell people your darkest secrets. I mean, if word gets out that I prefer the Patriot theme over Goldsmith's Air Force One theme . . . . I'm finished.
  18. Well even though that means we'll have one less Williams score . . . the movie sounds like it will be cheesy as all hell.
  19. Terminal. . . . we are starting to get down to the good stuff, aren't we folks?
