The Arena is an awesome track from that OST.
I never cared much for AOTC but the score is gangbusters, especially that speeder chase cue.

This is sounding not good.
I think it will be very well liked, hopefully including myself, and I think the album will give us a much better overview of the score. This is just first impressions from watching the film once (from one guy).
And we should be reminded the film mix and edits don't normally carry over to the album, which often has cues recorded separately.

Tempted to buy this, track by track as a digital release and skip over that cantina track, solely to keep money out of JJ's pocket!

I found Goldeneye Reloaded on PS3 for $5 this weekend. I absolutely loved it when it came out and did all the achievements on the Xbox 360, so its nice to go back to something you love with a renewed passion. Still mucking around in MGSV, Mad Max and Battlefront depending on my mood.
I'm almost done with Last Of Us (I'm at the university?) and I'm not over the moon about it. I think the Telltale Walking Dead games spoiled me.

I hate to say that if this movie gets a 2/1/2 stars from me, I'll not only be happy, I'll also feel the need to eat my hat.

I'd like to be optimistic since this will lack the creative team that did the last two movies - but then the Beastie Boys started playing and ... Sigh

Conspiracy theory?
Bob Orci, writer on Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness, supposedly wrote the latter film the way he did because he's a hardcore 9/11 truther. I'm under the impression he believes in a number of other "conspiracy theories," alternative histories, etc as well.
I might watch this in the hope that it's not as incredibly boring as other Trek movies I've seen, but eh.
You mean like Star Trek Into Darkness?
Actually, the final draft is much different in tone than what Orci originally wanted - which was that all of Starfleet was corrupt, not just one crazy Admiral. Other drafts smoothed it out and the fallout over it seemed to be the reason Orci is now persona non grata in Hollywood :\

Hasn't the whole story leaked anyway?
If its what I read (that Disney kept taking down)... then I have to ask how you feel about microwaveable leftovers

I think John is looking much better then he did a few months ago. It sounds like the score may be a very interesting one indeed.
I agree with this

Nerd texts from last night
Given he's directing Star Wars The Force Awakens, I'd say he's pretty deserving...
Don't let position predicate deserving. After all, we can all name people in positions of influence who didn't quite deserve it.

I agree with Thor. These speculation threads bring out the worst in JWFan.
But if speculation threads bring out comments from Thor... uh...

You apparently need to wait years, perhaps a decade or more, for accurate Star Wars reviews. Remember, when Attack of the Cloned came out, everyone was saying it was just as good as Empire, if not the best Star Wars film ever. So I'm taking this all with a grain of salt.
Yeah, most everything positive he said I heard said about TPM, AOTC, and ROTS, which I contend are not bad films, but disappointing, nonetheless. There will be no objectivity for a long time.
There never was such a thing as objectivity when it comes to movies like Star Wars.
Basically this. Fans around the world took serious issue that their Golden Calf could actually disappoint them.
If anything, this new one will play for the cheap seats by being nothing BUT nostalgia / "for the fanboys" / etc - and thus robbing it of anything new.
Snore.
But at least we get John in front of an orchestra.

Theres not much to it but in this book
Theres a page or two about the scoring sessions (why is it BTS stuff always ignores the music score?) where Lucas asks Williams to change the "coloring". Williams says something to the effect of "I scored the scene as 'red' but George asked me to do it in 'blue'." I remember it had to do with the original entrance to Coruscant - but I also haven't read the book in about ten years. If I can dig it up tonight, I'll post a photo.

Selfish blog post I wrote years ago about this very subject! http://letterstheyllneverread.blogspot.com/2013/07/the-last-great-star-trek-movie.html

A mid range PC. The game is well optimised though (for a change) and runs on max settings on modest hardware. If they hadn't locked it to 30fps on PS4 it would probably go way beyond that clip for much of the gameplay. I'd like to see some captures of the PS4 version actually, just to see how well it compares.
I took a couple screencaps as I was playing last night but nothing so "cinematic" as the shots you posted. If I remember, Ill upload them tonight.

Quintus - what rig are you playing Mad Max on? I just started it up on the PS4 sunday night.

Fine! Here's some "plagiarism" I found:
"The Exalted Sacrifice" from Le Sacre Du Printemps

and
"The Dune Sea of Tatooine/Jawa Sandcrawler" from Star Wars

Personally, I find the Exalted Sacrifice to be more suspensful and torturous in terms of emotion, truer to a desert atmsophere.
Ehhhhh. If you really want to see Stravinski get it hard, look no further than Trevor Jones.

My most important question: will there be a motif for the lens flare?
That joke is so old...
We are also waiting to see if it IS a joke

He never wrote a thing for that.
Goddamn it.

Imagine
A collector's box with all tracks: D ~~
I'd pay a good amount of money for it. Been dreaming about a box like this for many years.
Ditto. Theres also some alternates that we never got, including the original approach to Coruscant in TPM.
Also, was there ever a confirmation that Williams wrote (more) original music for the Arena Battle in AotC - or did Lucas just tell him he was going to track it with previously recorded score?

I sort of feel you on this.
The greatest thing about Williams's output in film is that it doesn't seem like film music; it's allowed to breathe and take its time and develop. That isn't to say other composers didn't (Goldsmith, Herrmann, Rozsa especially) but the nature of film often abuses music and chips away at it and really doesn't do it justice (see: How Ridley Scott treated Jerry's music on Alien).
But somehow Johnny's seems to thrive and sound more like concert work that just happens to work in a film instead of the other way around. Something about his approach changed around the first Harry Potter or The Patriot where he stopped writing so "broadly" and started writing "to the edits", which I imagine is why we have over two dozen short cues on this new album, which, though will certainly have IMMENSE quality to them, will lack that wide sweep of "scenery meets music" that even the prequels had.
The days of a Star Wars film having a cue like "Binary Sunset" are over, I'm afraid.
