  1. I would say just the opposite for my personal preference. Films that are too easy to follow often tend to get boring. I want films to force me to really pay attention and think the whole time. I don't want to be spoon-fed the storyline. That's why films like Memento or Donnie Darko are so great. You really have to make an effort to be able to follow everything going on. Plus, they increase watch-ability, because you're simply not going to get everything the first time around.
  2. Just to be clear, I'm not accusing JW of stealing anything. I just think there's an interesting similarity.
  3. I just listened to the main theme from Capricorn One (Goldsmith), and I can't help but notice that the main theme from The Lost World sounds a lot like it. Anyone else notice the similarities?
  4. True. I was answering based on the "preferably female" bit, but yeah it works for him too.
  5. Umm, I'm pretty sure a Creative will beat an iPod any day for sound quality.
  6. Only if you define "most portable MP3 players" as "iPods." Just another reason to avoid them as well as iTunes. The ever-increasing majority of non-iPods can play FLAC just fine. Of course I'd take a Creative or a Sansa over an iPod regardless. These FLAC issues are all problems with Apple, not FLAC itself.
  7. Sounds like yet another reason not to use iTunes to me, rather than a reason not to use FLAC. That said, I found a way a while ago to get FLACs working for iTunes on my roommate's computer. I'll have to see if I can figure out what I did again.
  8. They can't? Mine hold data and art with no problem.
  9. Why the manual (I suppose) WAV step? I use Exact Audio Copy, which rips as WAV, converts to FLAC, then discards the original WAV all in one automated process. It also runs a bunch of error checking stuff to ensure that every track is 100% bit-perfect.
  10. Yeah, laptop speakers do tend to render format and bit-rate pretty much completely irrelevant.
  11. The poll is pretty self explanatory. Personally, I'm just now making the switch to all FLAC.
  12. It's a book about John Williams. Not having actually read it yet, I don't really get the title either. Konstantinos and Neimoidian, your links have been sent. Probably best just to PM me though, so we don't clutter the thread.
  13. I was feeling kind of bored this afternoon/not feeling like doing my homework. So, I used a bunch of programs, batch scripts, etc. to extract the Spanish text from the book where it's available free online (http://content.yudu.com/Library/A1h5yo/OVERTHEMOON/), and I ran it all through Google translate. The result isn't particularly pretty, but it's easily readable in English. Just let me know if you want it.
  14. Somewhere or another, I have an 8-track that used to belong to my grandmother, of Star Wars played by the "Moog Orchestra." I'm assuming that means it was done on a Theremin? Anywho, I don't have an 8-track player, so I've never listened to it.
  15. Okay, these are kind of more questions about Amazon than anything. Other than price, are there any differences between the following pairs? http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Original-Picture-Soundtrack/dp/B000003G8X/ http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Original-Picture-Soundtrack/dp/B000003G8E/ http://www.amazon.com/Empire-Strikes-Back-Original-Soundtrack/dp/B000003G8G/ http://www.amazon.com/Empire-Strikes-Back-Special/dp/B000003G8H/ http://www.amazon.com/Return-Jedi-Original-Picture-Soundtrack/dp/B000003G8I/ http://www.amazon.com/Return-Jedi-Original-Picture-Soundtrack/dp/B000003G91/ And is this box set just the combination of the above? http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Trilogy-John-Williams/dp/B0002YCVLU/ Also, I'm assuming this is the Anthology referenced? http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Trilogy-Soundtrack-Anthology/dp/B000002VI7/
  16. Ah, but you see, Christmas is coming up. And my parents are asking for gift suggestions...
  17. Okay, so general consensus is get both the RCA SEs and the Anthology?
  18. There seem to be about a million different releases for ANH, ESB, and ROTJ. Which ones are the original releases? Which ones are the most complete releases? Which ones have the best sound quality? What about the different recordings? Can anyone attempt to summarize all the differences here? (It is entirely possible that this has been discussed before, but finding a specific topic on "Star Wars" is near impossible around here. I apologize in advance if that is the case, and feel free to just link me.)
  19. ID4 is an awesome score! Personally, I think the movie's pretty good too.
  20. I actually enjoyed that one as well. Very campy and cheesy, but still fun none-the-less. Definitely a great score though.
  21. I love The Mummy! I enjoyed The Mummy Returns. I nearly walked out on The Mummy 3, it was so bad.
