  1. Seriously, though. Someone who hasn't sent an email to Sony yet should include the following: 1. a link to this conversation 2. GoodMusician's edits 3. the fact that bootlegs are floating all over eBay On another, Star Wars related note, apparently, the Star Wars vault will contain the soundtrack to Star Tours. I haven't been on that ride in a while, and I was wondering if anyone knew if it was just re mixed music from the films, or if it was new material. I'm really excited for this book. Will there be a limited release??
  2. It is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! And it has many different melodies and motifs, including Dumbledore's Army, Umbridge, a secondary DA theme, and other beautiful, wonderful pieces. It isn't quite as good as PoA, but I think it is as good as SS, and better than CoS, and by far better than GoF. And it really lifts the movie out of some scenes--I would know--I've seen it 4 times. There are only 2 complaints I have: 1. they didn't include the music from the centaur attack on Umbridge 2. the "special edition" promised a 20 page booklet on the making of the score. All I got was the same quotes that can be found on the original soundtrack, and enlarged pics. But still, the actual score is more than amazing, it's FANTASTIC!
  3. And someone should say something I forgot to mention: That there are tons and tons of bootlegs floating around eBay.
  4. Hooper's score is amazing!!! Not quite as good as JW, but still, WONDERFUL!!! How dare you defy it!
  5. God, naturally.Okay, that came out wrong. My point was, "no self-respecting artist can logically be an 'heir' to anybody else", and the mere question contradicts the definition of "style" and "artistic freedom".Unless we're dealing with a liberal definition of "heir", hence the question.... God I'm bored these days.I agree with Ross. There can't be a heir to any artist, even more if one's of this stature.I think the point of this topic is just to determine the one who is second best in film scoring. But I agree that nobody in the world, living or dead, could ever top JW. Sometimes, it just amazes me how he can adapt to different styles, but make them as beautiful, frightening, sad, happy, etc... as he wants to. An his amazing ability to score literally ANY type of film superbly.
  6. After this is released, Sony is going to need a new "disguise". To anyone who e-mailed Sony, tell me if you get a response! While I am not going to waste my money on any of these sets (unless the remaining 2 discs are must-haves), I would be interested to see a track listing of the Corellian Edition, and see which cues JW likes the best. What a dissapointment...major let down. I wish in general, label companies would stop releasing already released stuff, when they could be releasing new material!! (e.g. Star Wars prequels, Family Plot....) I want to encourage everybody on this board to sent a letter. You've got nothing to loose, and the more, the merrier. Here's my letter: I am sending this e-mail in regards to your "Music of Star Wars 30th Anniversary Collector's Edition." While I appreciate all you're doing and all you've done, I will be among the many people who does not buy this product. It is a waste of hope and money for all those Star Wars/soundtrack fans who already own the Star Wars soundtracks. What really is in dire need of a release is the 2 other prequel scores, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith (mainly Revenge of the Sith). Both of those items would be immensly popular to fans of Star Wars, soundtracks, and John Williams.
  7. That CD is leaving out most of the best Star Wars cues! Sony probably assumed nobody would buy the CD after the fiasco of the UE.
  8. As far as I've heard, the only composer that can change stlyes of music to keep up with Spielberg's films is Alan Silvestri. I mean he brought us Polar Express, Forrest Gump, Mousehunt, and The Back to the Future Trilogy.
  9. Wonder why she didn't mention the locket to them. Maybe she thought Yates would realize it was a horcrux, and tell everyone.
  10. This is like someone proclaiming Full Screen DVD's are better than Widescreen in a Home Theater Forum .Your the only one here who has this point of view and obvioulsy you don't listen to other John Williams soundtracks much. K.M. KM you have a very good point. Demodex we know you're point of view on the Crap Edition for The Phantom Menace you've proclaimed it over and over again when this subject is brought up. Most everyone here on this forum (and other people who I've talked to outside this forum) would rather have the real true intended versions of the Prequel scores (myself included) instead of hacked jobs. Right. Most people here. But out in the real world there are probably lots of people just as happy with the UE. Yeah but in a John Williams forum the TPM UE are an insult. It's not our problem if your not musically inclined enough to notice the difference What about you like the UE and we don't, so we'll just have to except the fact that we have different opinions? Well it's an opinion that deserves to be slammed Fair enough. Correct KM is. ......OK, so I just wanted to see how many quote boxes we can get in here. Sue me. And you're right, KM, there were at least three different versions of that sequence, and I think Williams was able to do some corrections to the second but not the final. Consider yourself sued.

  13. It's possible they won't release the ENTIRE score, but more of it that was on the original soundtracks. Or perhaps they will ONLY release the unreleased material?
  14. Apparently, we're not the only forum wondering what these new releases are. http://www.reviewstarwars.com/forums/viewt...ffeaac691d93df7
  15. It took me about five minutes, but I finally remembered he had one scene in the cabin ("There's a storm coming") and the whole Grawp thing. Which, after reading Deathly Hallows, seems even more insignificant in the grand scheme of things...why even include that awkward scene in the film? Ray Barnsbury Rowling told them if they left out any key scenes, but I doubt she told them whether they left in unimportant scenes. Yates probably assumed Grawp would play a bigger roll in the seventh book.
  16. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLfjqzLsPgw That was.....................interesting.
  17. Okay, here's where you tell what the earliest soundtrack you own is. I don't care about re-recordings, this is just about the movies. For instance, if I owned the Collector's Edition of the Jaws soundtrack (which came out in 2000), I would count that as 1975, because Jaws came out in 1975. Here are my earliest 20: 1. Vertigo - Bernard Herrmann (1958) 2. Psycho - Bernard Herrmann (1960) 3. Planet of the Apes - Jerry Goldsmith (1968) 4. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory - Anthony Newley (1971) 5.The Cowboys - John Williams (1972) 6. Jaws - John Williams (1975) 7. The Eiger Sanction - John Williams (1975) 8. Close Encounters of the Third Kind - John Williams (1977) 9. Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope - John Williams (1977) 10. Jaws 2 - John Williams (1978) 11. Superman: The Movie - John Williams (1978) 12. 1941 - John Williams (1979) 13.Star Trek: The Motion Picture - Jerry Goldsmmith (1979) 14. Empire Strikes Back - John Williams (1980) 15. Raiders of the Lost Ark - John Williams (1981) 16. E.T. - John Williams (1982) 17. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn - James Horner (1982) 18. Return of the Jedi - John Williams (1983) 19. Temple of Doom - John Williams (1984) 20. Empire of the Sun - John Williams (1987)
  18. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! That must be hideous!!! Does she sing lyrics, or just pitches??
  19. I air conduct a bit for Main Title March from Superman. For most of the other songs, I drum long.
  20. I agree with that statement 200 %! But I still voted for Promenade.
  21. Williams talks briefly about the music of Jaws. He is also mentioned in Loraine Gary's interview: http://www.sharkisstillworking.com/video2.asp

  23. Not sure if this has been posted, but here's an interesting take on some of JW's (and other composer's) cues: Jaws: Back to the Future: Superman: Batman: James Bond:
