  1. Chris Lennertz has been one of my favorite composers for awhile now, but he has only recently become more popular in Hollywood and among the film score community. I'm afraid he was instantly typecasted into doing awful family films, but his occasional video game score gives him room to breath and compose some really awesome stuff. Some of you may have heard from either here of FSM (I know a thread was posted), but he has a section on his website entitled "For A Good Cause" in which he asks his fans to donate some money to a charitable cause in return for an autographed promo of one of his scores that never made it to the market. The first "thank you" was the promo for his score to the Quantum Of Solace video game (a superb effort which surpasses Arnold's work on the film IMO). It said on the page that the item would change every few months, so you should check back often. I've been checking back every few weeks since it was first put up, but it never changed, and I was always kinda "meh" about it. Yesterday I decided to stroll through his site and discovered that a new item has been posted up, a signed promo for his score to Gun. I was ecstatic to say the least, because not only was it never released, but I find it to be one of the best modern Western scores to date. A true gem, and definitely worth any amount of donation. The first 200 to send a check of $15 or more to the American Cancer Society will receive a copy of this outstanding score. For details, visit his site: http://www.christopherlennertz.com/goodcause/ I hope this becomes a regular habit, because it's a great win-win situation for the fans and the causes.
  2. O.K. The guy deserves his own. He's the next Giacchino, who is the next John Williams. So basically HE IS John Williams. I just actually really want to know what's going on with the Mercenaries 2 score. It's not up on iTunes yet.
  3. Ladies and gentlemen, young and old, this may already seem an unusual procedure for me to speak to you all before we begin this memorial/appreciation topic about even the music of a certain dead film and television music composer, but... http://37.media.tumblr.com/3b33a2f17ecdceee35c242fee4585d98/tumblr_n77tvbia951rcktu3o1_500.jpg I know this film and TV composer guy has been dead for a decade already but I am a great fan of this guy's scoring style. In fact, according to TV Tropes, this guy "was a very prolific composer so awesome he even scared the hell out of his peers....He was known for his thunderous, percussive orchestrations, his love for strange musical instruments, and his inventive integration of synthesizers as the 'fifth element' of the orchestra." And so, to commemorate the ten-year anniversary of the death and passing of this legendary film and TV maestro back in 2004, let us talk about and even appreciate the music of Jerry Goldsmith (1929-2004), especially his music for film, TV, etc. Let the Jerry Goldsmith Memorial Appreciation begin!
