I just noticed that my hometown symphony orchestra Oulu Sinfonia here in Finland will be performing Williams' Oboe Concerto on the 15th of February 2018. There are a few Finnish John Williams fans here on the messageboard so thought to post this news in its own thread. You can find more info HERE. Below is the programme of the concert:
Hi group. According to my discography, here are the most recorded JW concert works (including his own versions). Please tell me if I something is missing, thanks! Liberty Fanfare - 22 listed recordings in the discography 1986 Hail To The Spirit Of Liberty ("The President's Own" United States Marine Band/Bourgeois) 1987 By Request… (John Williams/Boston Pops) 1987 United States Air Force Tactical Air Command Band: We The People (Welsh, United States Air Force Tactical Air Command Band/Graham) 1988 American Jubilee (Erich Kunzel/Cincinnati Pops O)
Just saw this recent recording: Violin Showcase / Matthieu Arama http://www.arkivmusic.com/classical/album.jsp?album_id=1035875 Did'nt know the existence of this work, is it the first recording?
I know I just said I don't like speculation threads, so I guess I'm breaking my own rules here, but this is really more about the mechanisms at play that would allow a recording in the first place. I'm really clueless about such things, but maybe you know. Btw, this is the first time I've made a poll topic here, so let's hope this works. We all know he was dissatisfied with his symphony, which is why it only has been performed a couple of times and basically shelved.
