Maglorfin 196
Maybe this has already been discussed, but I'm really curious whether anybody else has noticed the quite obvious trumpet glitch in Superman The Movie End Title March. It's on original (LSO) soundtrack, if you own Rhino's 2 CD version, it's on CD 2, track 12 (Finale And End Title March) at approx. 4:45. It sounds to me like the 1st trumpet got that note quite to the sharp side. Interesting, I think it's perhaps the most obvious musical glitch I've heard on any JW CD. One more thing, who plays those first five notes of CD 1, track 1 (Prelude And Main Title March), is it Maurice Murphy or perhaps Derek Watkins? #SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
Did Derek Watkins ever play on a John Williams score? I know he did every Bond score, and probably lots of other Barry ones.
Maglorfin 196
According to Wikipedia, Watkins has also played key roles in many film scores, including Mission Impossible, The Mummy, Basic Instinct, Indiana Jones, Gladiator, Johnny English, Superman 1 & 2, Bridget Jones Diary and Chicago, where his trumpet solo opens the movie. Farawyn 0
You're right ! There is a musical "hiccup" at 4:45 ! Errare humanum est ... Strange it passed unnoticed.
Maglorfin 196
Strange it passed unnoticed.Well, it didn't. It's more strange to me that they didn't do another take or correct it some other way ... Well, as it turns out, there it is for many future generations to enjoy , no fuss about it at all. To me, it's even "sorta cute", a proof of the millenia old proverb that Farawyn mentioned.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
It probably went past Williams as he conducted. (conductors cannot always hear everything, unfortunatly, so stuff that gets picked up by a microphone a few feet away is not always audible to the conductor)
Greg1138 3
Slightly O/T, but watching Derek Watkins play MacArthur Park with the James Last Orchestra changed me completely.....everyone has one of those epiphanies during their musical carrers - that was mine...... John Crichton 4
I think I know what you're talking about, I always assumed it had something to do with the poorer quality of the sources used for the Rhino set rather than something in the performance. Joni Wiljami 1,206
There is also another , very juicy one in the same Rhino . CD 1 track 16 Planet Krypton(alternate) 1:
Eric_JWFAN 11
That's not the only glitch in the Superman soundtrack. A much more annoying one:http://jwfan.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10781&hl=
Maglorfin 196
Huh, I'll check that one out, I haven't seen move in a while so I don't really remember that. Seems interesting that STM is somehow almost "riddled" with those glitches or that they are so prominent, I really don't remember any other movie with similar "extras" (although there definitely must be some). I guess it's just like Lex Luthor said: "We all have our little faults, Superman."

Otherwise, I'll try to contact Murphy or Watkins somehow, I'm really interested in this.
