  1. One of Jerry's finest, most atmospheric works. The opening track is one of my very favorite pieces of film music. Ted
  2. I think you put it nicely, Pieter. Although I initially agreed with just about all of this, I just listened to the score again and was much more pleased with it. There is still a lot of inaccessible heavy action writing and a couple re-hashes from the first score, but there are some subtle bits of magic in there, and he does some amazing things with the battle theme from the first film; I'm guessing it's Aslan's theme. The final two cues are terrific. One thing you're absolutely right about is that those who did not enjoy the first score will not like this one. I like them both, though. Ted
  3. A long stretch for a Spielberg film. Not since the Saving Private Ryan / A.I. gap has Spielberg gone so long without making a feature-length movie Ted
  4. Eight dollars on iTunes + my immense enjoyment of the first score = downloading now Ted
  5. I like iTunes, even though KOTCS is nowhere to be found today. Ted
  6. Or will it even be available on iTunes? It will definitely be released on iTunes. It's just a question of whether that is tomorrow or next Tuesday. Three of Williams's four scores from 2005 (all except Sith) were released a week early on iTunes. I know that this is a new record company, so it's tough to tell. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if it shows up on iTunes tomorrow. I'd say it was 60-40 (not released-released), but that's a mostly baseless and worthless prediction. Ted
  7. I'm wondering if the American iTunes will release it a week early. They have a habit of doing that. Ted
  8. Crap, there it goes. I really thought I was going to get the ball rolling.
  9. I'm sorry too, man. Ted, trying to start a huge collective swing of emotion in this thread, a la the conclusion of The Naked Gun
  10. Haven't we all learned that before... Ted
  11. This is one of Howard's best scores. I love that it totally changes direction midway through and morphs into a choral atmosphere. Wonderful score. 4.5 Ted
  12. Hasn't Spielberg used that exact line in an interview? Or maybe it was someone else. Ted
  13. That's a nice photo! Although Cate Blanchett looks too much like herself. Ted
  14. Yeah i wouldn't make too much of it. Besides, there are further comments on AICN from other people who have supposedly seen it, who said it was marvelous. They were no more or less believable than the initial review. Ted
  15. Good point. But I think we'll be able to tell if Spielberg's heart wasn't in it. He makes it all too obvious. Ted
  16. Dialogue is important, but this review singled out minute details and blew them up, essentially. Picking out details like whether one shot looks fake, and a bad bit of dialogue, is not a critique of the movie. The one exception to this is the gymnast scene in The Lost World, which makes me want to hate the movie so much. Dialogue is very important, as TGE said, but we have to expect a certain amount of cheese here and there in the dialogue. I'm still waiting for a review that will talk about the feeling of watching this movie: the compositions, the music, the atmosphere, etc. None of the so-called reviews so far have done that. Ted
  17. The atmosphere of this score is terrific, despite its themes lacking some depth. I actually enjoy the motifs more than the main themes. Still, though, on the whole, this is a very good score. Some of my favorite tracks include: Sibylla, Ibelin, Better Man, Coronation, and Wall Breached. Pieter: I think you're doing a great job with these score polls. You're touching on a real variety of composers and scores. I'm looking forward to the next one! Ted
  18. Hmm... the review didn't really talk about the movie at all. Its quibbles seemed to be about very arbitrary things. Some comments are about dialogue and effects, but that's about it. Ted
  19. Easy... I was joking. Truth is that I am impressed with some of them, but not others. On the whole, I'd say I'm impressed with their potential, but also not impressed by the fact that I wasn't blown away by them. Ted
  20. With all these positive responses, I'm going to have to give this score a listen. I've heard the main theme and a track here and there, but never the whole thing. I didn't know so many people liked it. I have always loved Silvestri's Returns, though. Ted
  21. Is it possible to add the option, "Yes and No"? Ted
