Trailer is out for this new James Horner scored IMAX documentary

2015 is not only a big year for Hollywood blockbusters in general, but a big year for a lot of film composers as well. I'll start by highlighting 3 of them: It's a big year for MICHAEL GIACCHINO. He's got Jupiter Ascending, his second collaboration with The Wachowskis. This one's already out, so there isn't much more to say about it. Tomorrowland, his fourth collaboration with Brad Bird, after The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and Mission: Impossible 4. The film looks to be a fun fantasy adventure film that will give Giacchino a wide brush to paint wish, without being so unabashedly extravagant like Jupiter Ascending. Can't wait. Jurassic World, his first collaboration with director Colin Trevorrow, but his fourth entry in the Jurassic Park franchise (he scored three video games: The Lost World, Chaos Island, and Warpath). He will be using John Williams' themes, something he has previously done on Star Tours... and of course he has quoted John Williams as an inspiration many times. I imagine he is incredibly excited about this project, and will come up with something really special. Really looking forward to it. Inside Out, his second collaboration with Pete Docter, after Up. Out of the four, this is actually the one I'm most looking forward to. I mean, it's one of the rare big budget films coming out this year that isn't a sequel, prequel, reboot, or based on an existing property, and it's Pixar, and the score to Up was great. And the film is about the personified emotions of a young girl, so is ripe for a wild fantastical score. Really can't wait for this one! It's also a big year for JAMES HORNER - his biggest year since 2005!! Wow! He's got: Wolf Totem, his fourth collaboration with Jean-Jacques Annaud, after The Name of the Rose, Enemy At The Gates, and Black Gold. Looks like some kind of adventure film set in China, should be neat! The 33, about the Chilean mining disaster, directed by Patricia Riggen. Not sure what to expect about this one until a trailer comes out. Southpaw, a boxing movie directed by Antoine Fuqua. The film's got a good cast - Jake Gyllenhaal, Rachel McAdams, Naomie Harris, Forest Whitaker - but a lot of times these types of movies don't have much score in them. This one might not get a score release, who knows. Living in the Age of Airplanes, an IMAX documentary formerly called Aviation: The Invisible Highway. We know about Horner's obsession with planes and flying - this could end up being amazing! And of course, it's the biggest year in a while for JOHN WILLIAMS as well. He's got St. James Place (working title), his (!!) collaboration with Steven Spielberg. A cold war thriller starring Tom Hanks, this has potential to be a pretty cool score, I think! Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens, his first collaboration with J.J. Abrams, and seventh score in the franchise. What more needs to be said!? Any thoughts on these scores? Michael Giacchino Is Hard At Work On The 'Inside Out' Recording Sessions

So now when we have the last Hobbit score i'm curious which score you guys prefer in both of the trilogies. Of course the choice might change if we ever get complete recordings of the Hobbit but please vote on what you feel right now based on all the material we have and have heard in the films. I LOVE all the scores myself and to me it is very hard to pick my favourites since I feel that all of the scores have their assets. If you want you can write how you personally would rank the scores. This is how I would rank the scores right now (I feel that my opinion might change in the future): The Lord of the Rings trilogy - 1. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 2. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 3. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers The Hobbit trilogy - 1. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies 2. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug 3. Well we know for sure that it's being recorded in New Zealand again. On August 9th, Conrad Pope checked in on Facebook "Waiting to board. Next stop breezy, lovely Wellington" (link). On August 13th, he checked in at the Museum Art Hotel in Wellington, NZ, saying "Working and working and .....working" (link). And earlier today, JoAnne Kane Music Service posted "Air New Zealand to Auckland. Middle earth here we come!" (link). I haven't found anything on Doug's twitter feed about him being in either NZ or NY, though. ANYWAY, I hope everyone is excited for this score as much as I am! It will be the culmination of not only The Hobbit's story, but the entire LOTR/TH series as a whole. I expect we'll hear definitive versions of themes such as Smaug, Erebor, Thorin, House Of Durin, The Arkenstone, Tauriel, Tauriel/Kili, Girion and Lake-town. There will probably be a bunch of new themes, though I except less new themes than either of the prior scores introduced, and less than ROTJ introduced. The only major new character not yet introduced is Dain Ironfoot, and it's possible his thematic material was already introduced in AUJ (heard in the tracks "An Unexpected Party" [3:43] and "The Dwarf Lords". Beyond that, there could be a theme for The White Council (when Gandalf, Saruman, Galadriel, Elrond, and Radagast fight Sauron in Dol Guldur). There could be a new theme, or new variation on existing Sauron material for Azog and Bolg's orc and warg army. There could be a new theme for the eagles, maybe one for the Lake-town men in battle. There could be some kind of overacting theme for the Battle of Five Armies itself too. I think it's very likely we'll finally get to hear the full Beorn theme that was only hinted at in DOS too (the recent published sheet music show how it continues from what's used in the score to a cool ending reminiscent of Nature's Reclamation) I think the big question is which of the great themes introduced in AUJ that were completely dropped in DOS will return in BOFA? One of the coolest and most radically different from the sound of LOTR themes in AUJ was Radagast's Theme, which was completely absent from DOS despite his character returning. Will we hear it in BOFA? Bilbo had 3 major themes in AUJ - his Main Theme aka Baggins/Took Theme, his Adventure Theme, and his Fussy theme. Only the latter two returned, and only in small cameos. Will he hear the definite conclusion of his main theme? Shore wrote a great theme for Thorin's Company for the first film that was mostly replaced by Misty Mountains. Will either return in Part 3? What else can we expect from BOFA? What scenes from the book are people most looking forward to hearing the score for?
