Popular Post Marian Schedenig 8,193
A nice article by Marin Alsop on musical instruments in art, with a brief mention of Williams in the introduction: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/musical-instruments-in-art-chosen-by-marin-alsop-conductor-xnwstc0t7 (Requires free registration) Here's the Williams bit: Music adds breadth, depth and complexity. Film is the art form that uses music most directly. John Williams writes music that not only adds to a film, but that is wonderful music in its own right. His work is operatic in its techniques. In Williams, as in Wagner, the main characters are given a leitmotif that captures their character. Even people who think they don’t know about music will know Darth Vader’s “leitmotif” and their emotions will be stirred accordingly. Music is telling the parallel story and connecting us on a subconscious level. Incanus, Joni Wiljami, karelm and 1 other
Joni Wiljami 1,206
Is this the conductor who was just lately appointed artistic director of some orchestra in Vienna?
Marian Schedenig 8,193
Yes, the Radio Symphony Orchestra - pretty much Vienna's leading orchestra for modern music (they premiered several Glass symphonies under Dennis Russell Davies) and also the one to perform the annual Hollywood in Vienna concert. Popular Post karelm 2,913
I love Marin! She is a real pioneer. When she was a student in the 1980's, no one would give her a chance because she was a woman. So she had to form her own orchestra just to be able to conduct. Even Lenny Bernstein took her in and mentored her as a protege. I have been lucky enough to perform under her multiple times and just adore her so much because of her talent, passion, and what all she's had to overcome to achieve this level of success. She is an amazing human being! She is also a very gifted pedagogue especially of new music to general audiences. My view of Marin: Incanus, Marian Schedenig and Joni Wiljami
